I can understand the reluctance, more and more hints, rumours and even facts are emerging about the trials and what the vaccine might be doing to us. 'It doesn't stop you getting it, or getting sick or passing it on. It gives you heart attacks, you're more likely to get Covid after the jab'
What began with a few committed 'antivaxxers' has spread into a wider area of people looking outside of mainstream media and not liking what they see.
True facts are hard to come by with this and every other issue that needs resolving.

I have been surprised to see little dissent in this large group of people which isn't how I find it in the real world

Note, I am carefully not posting my stand on this subject, my opinion is unimportant

My oldest daughter,52, had jabs last year plus the flu one,she and my nextdoor neighbour were absolutely terrified, she was hysterical, screaming at me,on the phone in 2020, that I mustn't go outside! She's had it several times. This summer was so ill she couldn't even climb the stairs
Yet, they have both decided they aren't having anymore jabs. Both grownups,in their 50s.  There are now so many antivaxers on MUMSNET, everyone knows someone who has had cardiac problems or blood clots caused by the vaccines.

@Nanny Beach it's good to see somebody at least acknowledging issues. I was concerned to see no alternative views or any doubts cast on the party line. We should be open to discussion and look hard at issues like this, it affects us all.
Look at other view points and evidence, you don't have to believe it all, there's plenty of rubbish out there but such a solid mass repeating the same thing is not discussion.

Just been for our flu jabs this morning. Last year, there was a queue in the car park, this year we walked straight into the waiting room, only two people in front of us, and we were seen immediately. We wore our masks, but were disappointed that the nursing and clerical staff in the room weren’t. Also annoyed that the local hospice charity had a Christmas card sales stall set up in the corridor, partly blocking the walkway, and that the stall was manned by two people without masks, one of whom was blowing her nose enthusiastically as we went by. What is going on?
Am I being over fussy? For the last 20 years of my working life, I wore a fresh mask for every patient, fresh gloves, multiple hand washings, just became routine to protect the patients from me, me from the patients, and them from each other. It feels like covid never happened, yet I read that infection rates in Devon are going through the roof.

nutcutlet, this ISNT my view or opinion. I was just stating it. I am with Punkdoc on this one for myself personnaly. I don't shove my opinions onto others, even with medical evidence. I don't give opinions or advice to anyone including my children unless they ask for it. I have a MIL who did that for 20 years, her way, or no way, she was always right even when she was wrong.Theis is a forum to discuss, hopefully reasonably.(Far more politely than the language on MN) Folk are always very shocked, when I say, I'm on a gardening forum and we talk about ..........

@Nanny Beach, not giving my personal view either, just concerned that nobody was questioning given the huge group we have.

Re masks… I think we should remember it’s very likely that medical staff are being tested for Covid pretty frequently … IMO being in a medical centre where staff aren’t wearing masks is, in all probability, less risky than being in a café, restaurant, pub or supermarket where folk aren’t wearing them.

Nutcutlet, I think most of us have already done our ‘questioning’ and made our decisions on whether or not to have our jabs and boosters. With any medical procedure, there are risks and benefits to be weighed up. I’d be happier if everyone consulted reputable sources to inform their decisions, rather than forums where anyone can post whatever they like.
Its a bit like reading the Hotel and cruise review websites, you just get a personal view, and it would be a shame to react to a negative rating of a hotel because it didn’t have a concierge, a certain brand of alcohol that isn’t even one I like, or didn’t recognise and grovel at a guests loyalty status. All needs a balanced approach.

I suppose people are hoping it has turned into an ordinary seasonal flu - which, incidentally, kills many people every year.
It seems to me that it is our responsibility to protect ourselves and others from disease in any reasonable way that we can.
