BBC was saying a few days ago in the week ending March 26th that 1 in 13 UK citizens had Covid that week. But it didn't seem it was running off actual positive tests, rather taking the results of a random 100,000 individuals positive/negative results and applying that math to the entire population?
Well so many people seem to think it's all over but many of us know that's not the case. The numbers were dropping steadily round here but in the last week it's on the rise again.Remember where Omicron came from, S. Africa is going into winter now. Don't drop your guard stay safe.
It will never be over, a new disease has ben created. But I have given it enough of my life now. I will live what I have left of my life in the company of my friends and family.
Yes, even Omicron has changed to a new variant in SA and will no doubt be here by autumn. I'm back to doing all the usual things but I where a mask for the weekly shop and for any gatherings where I don't know everyone has been vaccinated.
For patchwork, mosaic and garden club meetings we all had to show our Covid passes to be admitted so I know they're all triple vaccinated and we'll get our 4th in a couple of weeks. No more kissing and shaking hands when greeting friends and acquaintances. Our neighbours did all that huggy stuff at a recent wedding party and both caught Covid.

My kids have both had colds all week and I think I've caught it now. The joy of childcare is that they will no doubt bring home Covid at some point and it will cost me a couple of hundred quid for the privilege. I've lost a day's work this week and had to pay for them not to be in childcare on top
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
We had been feeling slightly self satisfied that we had given Covid the swerve. Well, that changed this week! And that got me thinking, what % of the UK population has had Covid since the epidemic began? If I think of my social circle I would estimate around 75% but I would interested to know the actual figure.
It seems that we have a constant issue with ambulance services across the country not being able to unload patients (in a timely manner) at A&E - is that still caused by Covid - or is it now a legacy of super sick people with other ailments who couldn't get treatment during covid?
Maybe someone in the health service knows what is going on at the moment. I had thought that the advent of spring/summer weather would see the Covid numbers fall away to all but nothing as people spent more time outdoors, but it seems the numbers hit a low and are slowly rising again.
Thanks for that data, @steveTu. I have complete confidence in the government statisticians’ methodology so I am sure the figure is correct. Nevertheless it surprised me. But, on reflection, people are much more likely to say in conversation that they have had Covid and not that they haven’t had it. That probably inflated my guess.
