Our surgery done do the Covid jabs, have to go to a walk in centre but can book it. Hubby had his last Saturday and i have mine on the 12th next Monday. It might be like the flu now but we will still have the boosters, like the flu one.

It’s like the flu now,  because we have the jabs.

I got a text this week from "NHSvaccine" saying their records show I'm due an autumn booster. It seems early to me given that the nurse at the GP practice said probably mid-October at the earliest for my age group, and sure enough when I followed the link and answered the questions, I got "You do not need to book any coronavirus vaccination appointments using this service". What's the point in sending me the text then?

The same thing happened to me but I think it's because I'm in an "at risk" group. The questions only seem to ask if you're in the group that was screening, which is the "high risk" group. My  husband (who seems to have too much time on his hands) did some investigation and said that when the screening advice was lifted Group 6 (high risk) and Group 4 (at risk) were merged. I suspect the booster is now available for at risk people (i.e. anyone who is under 65 but eligible for the flu vaccine) but the NHS questions are wrong. Anyway, for the time being I'm waiting in the hope that the age limit will drop soon and my husband and I can have them at the same time.

I think it was on here, I mentioned friend had booked Covid jab about 18 miles from home.... doesn't drive, train strike (Saturday) I could "feel" the hints!! You lovely friends told me not to listen 👂, I obeyed. Her husband drives and has weekends off work. Wondered why she hadn't mentioned it to him. He moans about car journeys AND, has decided himself Covid is a load of hysteria and he's not having anymore jabs. She didn't ask him for a lift, but told me yesterday she cancelled her jab, because she's "heard" she can have it in nearby town. She is very silly, she messed about dentist, smear, mammogram appointments, sometimes cancelled sometime failed to turn up and got removed from system. You should have heard him at the beginning of Covid. Boy,he's changed his tune!

I'm not in an "at risk" group, as far as I know so of course I answered "no" to those questions. I'm entitled to a free flu jab, being over 50, when they get to my age group. The only time I got them free at a younger age was for a few years when I was taking immune-suppressing medication for autoimmune arthritis. The arthritis itself didn't qualify me when I didn't need the immune-suppressing medication. Beginning to wonder if someone's been changing something in my records - I had my annual review recently and the nurse who did it was fairly new to it - the one who always used to do it has retired.
OH (older than me but under 65, not in an at-risk group) booked his free flu jab at the pharmacy for a couple of weeks from now when he was in there picking up a prescription, so maybe I'll do the same if I don't hear from the GP soon.

Free flu jabs for over 50s start on the 15th of this month IIRC.

  • Depends where you are located - flu jabs booked at our GP ( 30 mins ) on 8th but Covid boosters booked for the 5th  require a good hour's drive. I am beginning to understand why so many people just don't bother.

Does anyone know if the under 50s will get a Covid booster?
