Very interesting paper from the CDC which shows that natural immunity is excellent protection against hospitalisation. Looking at four groups: no vaccines and no prior infection, no vaccines but had infection, vaccinated but no previous and vaccinated plus prior infection, the first group were significantly more at risk and the two groups who had pervious infection (vaccinated or not) were almost the same in their very low rates of hospitalisation.
To me, this goes some way to explain the high hospitalisations and deaths in wave one compared to now (where many people have antibodies). It does of course raise the question about the value of vaccinating low risk groups.
Researchers think they have for a long covid signature, which is good news for sufferers of LC and also ME, going forward. It will help come up with cast iron definitions.
When I saw the headline my heart sank a little thinking Joni Mitchell, whom I greatly admire, was speaking out against vaccination. But no, far from it, she and Neil Young - another favourite - are staunchly pro-science, pro-vaccine.
As a lifelong fan of both of those artists [Neil and Joni] @BenCotto, I couldn't agree more. I was chatting to my girls the other day about it when Neil made his stance. He has several children with compromised health, so it's a subject close to his heart. Joni has some serious health complications now, but also - she had polio very badly as a child, so her health would always have been compromised by something like Covid.
As for the other two....words have failed me for along time.

and as for Clapton and Van … have they learned nothing from all the mistakes they’ve made in the past? Neither are folk I’d take lifestyle or health advice from. 🙄

Why do you put any credence in what artists say? What difference does it make what someone thinks unless that person is an expert in or has extensive knowledge of that field? Isn't it only just opinion - would you take any notice of what Chris Whitty thought of blues without knowing what he knows about music?
And if you argue that it's down to influence, then isn't that what's wrong and not the opinion itself? - ie that people in the public eye are assumed to be in some way special and different to the rest of us and that their views on a whole range of subjects are in some way more informed than our own?
What is scary, is when a political leader comes out with stuff that should be believed/believable and it's b****cks. Trump led the way, and where Trump leads Boris follows. Artists? At least you know most are narcissistic drugged up idiots - well, maybe not most...
Of course people in the public eye are different from us. They are, how can I say this, in the public eye. They have millions of followers who, and maybe I am being harsh here, are overly susceptible to the words of their “leader”. So if an artist pumps out some half-chewed claptrap then the followers are likely to digest it, and repeat it and the mistruth gains rapid traction.
Then we should be teaching the kids that celebrity doesn't mean knowledge. That's what's wrong - and if you say you put more faith in an artist over an expert because they're in the public eye, then I doubt your judgement too. If you don't, then are you saying other people are less educated than you...more gullible than you? How did you learn the difference between sensible advice and less valid advice?
Sorry but I totally disagree. I am, for instance a great fan of the Libertines, and the poet that is Pete Doherty, however like most of his fans, I would not listen to his views on anything other than music. I think you might be underestimating the intelligence of at least some of the Great British Public, but then, maybe not?

What a contrast to the embarrassment of our own Eric Clapton and Van Morrison.
