It is bad, but not as bad as it looks!!!!
How can you lie there and think of England
When you don't even know who's in the team

Perhaps the level of obesity is a factor?

I believe you @punkdoc . But why is it not so bad as it looks?
    In London. Keen but lazy.

Can anyone explain why our death rate is so bad?
    Is it:
    The way we calculate it
    Crowded small island
    Government failure
    Or what?
Despite; Masks, social distancing, lockdowns & vaccines??

Or perhaps its taken a pandemic to confirm or highlight that the UK is or was a nation of unhealthy individuals to begin with or dare I say it a health service not fit for purpose... my own dealings with the NHS over the last 10 years, on numerous occasions,  have confirmed they are not.

    I didn't actually know the the death rate so I did a quick Google;

    According to my maths (?),

21% of the population of the UK have tested positive for C19.
150k have died (either 'of' or 'with'.. I don't know which?) = 1% of + cases or 0.00022% of the population of the UK. How many of that 1% were ill to begin with or what the age range of those who died I don't know either.

    https://www.nuffieldtrust.org.uk/news-item/what-has-been-the-impact-of-covid-19-across-the-uk-countries?gclid=Cj0KCQiAieWOBhCYARIsANcOw0wB9f2ibw94QLlFuFh6EzGRf-VKiUcNAkuPSuECkP-FA0P67LvvT6waAqFNEALw_wcB

I'm triple jabbed & despite my reservations about the way other aspects of the C19 outbreak have been handled I'm all for vaccinations (if they work, aren't required numerous times a year - which isn't sustainable - & have minimal side effects). Lockdowns work .. but only when locked down and aren't sustainable either. Constant testing doesn't seem to make sense to me - if you're asymptomatic why test? If the majority of the population is vaccinated what is the mask & social distancing protecting us from? The vaccine is roughly 75% effective as a minimum (I Googled that too) so is wearing a mask given up to 75% of the UK population are now vaccinated actually giving any meaningful protection ('to' or 'from') ?. Same goes for distancing - although I'm willing to bet its more efficient than mask wearing. Are, therefore, those that choose to stay unvaccinated reducing their own risk as the rest of us are less infectious. Sure they can pass on Covid at higher 'strengths' but as we're all jabbed up how big realistically is that risk?.. and the number of unvaccinated appears to be getting less.

What really concerns me though.. .whats the endgame. When will 'we' decide its over - no more jabs, masks off & social distancing a thing of the past? Society can't keep living solely to avoid death. On top of that how many will die as a result of Covid measures in the next ten years - sounds melodramatic but it will happen...in fact its happening now. How many I wonder will feel comfortable returning to life without masks, distancing etc. I'm sure many are so fearful now they never will.

I think @Nanny Beach means the brother was asymptomatic.
You can still pass it on if you are so testing is necessary, although if they're in the same household, I'd assume everyone would have to isolate anyway, or is that not the case in England? It is here.

I agree with you @the tidy gardener. On all counts, especially about your dad. How can anyone who is supposedly protecting our relations and friends, think that's acceptable? I appreciate that, pre vaccine, their jobs were hideously difficult, but it's dreadful to think they aren't taking those precautions now available.  :|

I wouldn't have been cheering on Djokovic though ...

Yeah,as Fairy said Thursday grandson and my daughter were asymptomatic. Although my daughter tested everyone,
In the UK if someone in your house hold has Covid, according to the NHS site,if you're under 18 years,6months or fully vaccinated, you don't have to isolate. The kids. both tested positive,so she has to be off work with them anyway.
