@Hexagon , I too am curious as to why Ibuprofen would make Covid 19 worse. Ibuprofen, along with other NSAID's work by inhibiting the production of prostaglandins.
While they are useful for somethings, eg NSAID's reduce menstrual pain caused by prostaglandins, they exacerbate it in inflammatory bowel disease.
Depending on the receptors they attach to , they can have many different reactions.
cause constriction or dilation in vascular smooth muscle cells
cause aggregation or disaggregation of platelets, affecting blood clotting .
acts on cells in the stomach wall to inhibit acid secretion. Thus taking something like Ibuprofen or Naproxen or Diclofenac blocks this inhibition of the acid secretion, and acid levels go up, (and can cause ulcers). Then other drugs such as omeprazole are given to block the acid again. The side effect of this is much less acid, acid which is part of the defense mechanism of the body, so people taking omeprazole are more prone to infections.
I doubt that double blind trials have been done to compare mortality rates in Ibuprofen takers versus Paracetamol takers with Covid 19. Paracetamol seems to be unavailable everywhere at the moment. If you are asthmatic or have heart disease,or renal disease, it is not recommended that you take Ibuprofen anyway. Co-codamol (Paracetamol and codeine combination) still seems to be available but it should not be mixed with alcohol, causes constipation in many people and makes me feel light headed and dizzy, so I keep it for bedtime if pain is stopping me from sleeping.
If you have or can get Paracetamol, start with that. If you can't get any, I would rather risk Ibuprofen than be in a lot of pain. If you have a sore throat and headache and dry cough, stay at home. If you are struggling to breathe, seek medical advice urgently.
I am very interested in this to. As I explained earlier, in many disease states, sepsis being the area that occupied most of my career, a pathological super inflammatory response is the main cause of death. It is also a major problem in rheumatoid arthritis and other related diseases. It therefore seems unlikely [ although possible ] that NSAIDs would be the cause of the problem
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
@Tin pot, I brought this up, because you were incredibly rude and accused me of lieing about the seriousness of the issue, it would be nice, although I recognise unlikely if you admitted you were wrong. There are over 400 people in UK ICUs tonight as a result of COVID 19 and that is pretty serious.

I work in a pharmacy we have paracetamol supplies coming in regularly and no shortage of 100 packs for dispensing. If people think it’s on short supply they will panic buy. I don’t take ibuprofen myself (heartburn) and would not recommend co-codamol as it’s addictive. Just paracetamol will help with symptoms. My son has had high fever and cough for 3 days, he now feels much better and is bored with self isolating. He hasn’t been tested but it seems likely that he has had virus. Obviously in some cases it is very serious and we need to take sensible precautions but alarmist stories don’t help. Most people will probably be unwell for a short time and then make a full recovery. Thank you @punkdoc for your calm input. Please don’t panic and make a difficult situation worse for people who are already frightened.
Thank you, I have been trying to be helpful and informative, and am very grateful for the PMs supporting me. It just gets a bit wearing when some people continue to belittle what is said and accuse me of lieing.

You denied what the CMO said. It is not possible for you to be right as the CMOs statement was and is published fact. I have moved on. Whether you want to admit you were wrong or not is not of interest to me, and no longer relevant to this thread.
You have made several other valid posts which I have liked correspondingly, but if you are unable to move on I am happy to stop responding to any of your posts and wish you good luck in life. 👍
There is a lot of misinformation and downright lies out there. There are many people who will experience this virus with very mild symptoms and wonder what all the fuss is all about. There are some of us who realise how serious this is, and will likely lose family members.
To those on the front line, in Hospitals, Doctors surgeries and Pharmacies, I say Thank you for carrying on in very trying times with very little support.
@punkdoc, you are right in what you say, and also right in staying home and not putting yourself at risk when you are already in poor health.
