All the harder when they make stupid decisions about getting the wrong supplies from the wrong people and then dithering about the message to mask, keep distanced etc. and don't follow their own advice and rules.

I see Johnson has abdicated his responsibility again. Do whatever you think is best this Christmas. Is it true that if the government just advises rather than instructs businesses to lockdown, they don't have to pay compensation? If so, this might be a reason for the lack of firm guidance.
Just back from setting up the room for our historical society Christmas social this evening. We have limited people to 4 per table and opened all the top windows and skylight. We will wear masks whilst serving the food and encourage guests to wear masks when not seated at their tables. This is all we could do given that we have not been advised by the govt. to cancel the event. We would have happily cancelled and respect those who have decided not to attend. With an age range of 65+ everyone will have had their boosters but we do know that that doesn't prevent symptomless spreading. I have to attend sadly. After this I will not be mixing with anyone so that we can enjoy our Christmas Day with my daughter and family.
Tottenham is having a 24 hour, walk-in, Jabathon, starting tomorow. In some London boroughs only 30% of young people have been vaccinated, so they are pulling out all the stops. Neighbours are volunteering to help through the night. They are also now offering training programmes for residents to be able to vaccinate (paid).
There's a real sense of urgency here and looming disaster if Christmas goes pear-shaped. The take up is just so low. Conspiracy theories have just ripped through so many communities and now are seemingly stuck.
Plymouth, the worst infection rates in the whole country, 28 on ventilators in our hospital. Not much hope for us with depleted immune systems. I wish Christmas would just go away.

I really don't follow the Welsh announcement that they'll introduce more restrictions from Boxing Day. Won't the damage have largely been done by then? If the youngsters are getting boosters so they can 'party with a pass' isn't the past month and that final week leading to Christmas the critical time? There's always mass movement around Christmas with families gathering - why encourage higher numbers before Christmas, and then clamp down after when the virus has potentially been passed on after the family get togethers?

It's been much clearer here in France and, so far, for a similar population, fewer deaths.
