@debs64 … you caught Covid after you’d been vaccinated … you didn’t even have to go to hospital.
If you had caught it 18 months ago, before you and so many others had been vaccinated, the likelihood is that you would have been infected by someone who was shedding a bigger viral load, and you would have had no antibodies to fight it. There’s a strong likelihood that you, like so many others, would have been in hospital on a ventilator in an induced coma. You might have died.
Now thanks, not only to your vaccination but also to that of others, you had a relatively mild case of Covid and have recovered pretty well.
Now do you get why it matters?

I understand perfectly that me having the vaccine protects me from being unwell but it doesn’t protect others. I am fully vaccinated and I can give covid to others when I get it. If they are vaccinated they are less unwell probably but they can give it others and it’s people who are unvaccinated who are most likely to be very poorly. The vaccine doesn’t stop me infecting other people does it? I can be vaccinated, show my passport and mix with many other people and infect them all if I am asymptomatic or in the early stages of the virus.
Constant testing seems to be the only way forward but when I had covid it didn’t show up on a lateral flow test. I tested in the morning and was in bed feeling dreadful by 6pm. My fiancé who was fully vaccinated was allowed to go to work and possibly infected others before he became unwell.
My concern is that vaccines are given too much importance and are engendering false confidence . I was delighted when they first came out and so excited to get back to normal but although they have a part to play they are not the only thing to consider and so sacking people for refusing them seems very wrong to me when educated intelligent people with more medical training than most of us are saying we need to think again.
@debs64 Please read what I said about ‘viral load’.
People who have been vaccinated, even if they get the virus, get it less badly, therefore they carry and shed less virus and therefore they are less likely to infect others as badly.
It’s so simple … why don’t you get that?

You are so right @Dovefromabove, when I look back to when my son caught it at the start of the pandemic there were no vaccines and he nearly died, in fact the doctors are still amazed as to how he has recovered as much as he has. His Rheumatologist has said to him that he has never seen anyone as ill as him recover so well. He is now up to date with with all his Covid jabs.
It does protect others, because it reduces viral carriage and transmission. This information has been available for over 18 months. Sorry but it is really dangerous when people who don’t know what they are talking about pretend they do, especially if as in your case, you are giving advice to the public.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
Re testing … Omicron doesn't show up on a lateral flow test for the first 3 days at least.
Only a PCR registers it in the early stage.
Therefore a negative LFT means folk like your fiancé go to work and spread it … however, because he had been vaccinated he was carrying less viral load and was not as infectious as he would have been if he’d not been vaccinated. So if his colleagues caught it from him, they would not have been as ill as they would have been if he’d not been vaccinated.

It's important to acknowledge these things to ourselves, instead of trying to interpret regulations to make them fit to our wishes and carry around these delusions.
Covid rules are for collective well being. Govt border regulations must be respected by all. If Oz says "you can't come in without a vaccine" then don't try to weasel, whine, moan and claim you are being persecuted.
If someone really refuses to protect collective health, they shouldn't leave the house.
What do people think about the doctor arguing that immunity from having the virus is as effective as immunity from a vaccine? Are we really going to sack many of our trained healthcare professionals for making up their own minds? Are we not in enough trouble?
That is not true. The person to ask is an epidemiologist, not a GP or other doctor.
