Are we only just waking up to the fact that the Chinese,  having failed to win an idealogical argument changed tack an embarked on an economic war. Personally I have been avoiding buying Chinese goods for a long time, not always easy but I would prefer to do without.  I also buy British fruit and vegetables when in season and do without when their not (we do grow most of our vegetables) Cheapest isn't always best And not just in terms of money.

I bet Trump is sorry he sent 18 tons of supplies to China now.

I can't imagine that the government is deliberately withholding PPE, or that they are wilfully failing to source as much as they possibly can. Once this is all over, we can ask questions about preparedness, communication, the supply chain and international politics. But right now, I am entirely sure that they're buying all they can, moving it as fast as they can and struggling to cope with the constant 'what about us?' calls from all sorts of people in genuine desperate need for more.

And whilst the knock on effects for people with other conditions who's treatment is being delayed is terribly sad, it's really not someone's fault. Unless you want to blame those who exploit wild animals and who brought this on us all.

In time, there will be very many questions to ask and I sincerely hope lessons will be learned and behaviour changed. I still rather doubt it though  :/

I don't think making this political is very helpful.
The world is in crisis and no nation has adequate PPE, or other equipment.
We are certainly doing a lot better than the USA, if you compare films from both countries.
Yes but on the other hand many countries have done a lot better than us. There is a decent chance a Labour government would not have wasted 2 weeks on 'herd immunity' and followed the lead of other countries who got on top of social distancing much earlier than us. Many of the people in this week's death statistics will have contracted the virus before the pubs and schools were shut down.

I am afraid it was a bit of a no win situation, if they had imposed the lockdown  weeks before the likelihood would be that more people would be fed up and or desperate by now and be breaking the restrictions.
With PPE there are all sorts of careers that need it now that never needed it before, so they weren't used to having to supply them, not that that is any excuse. If they hadn't spent the last 20 years re-organising, changing, making experienced staff redundant etc we would not be in the mess we are now. Yes the NHS is magnificent but it's a miracle it works at all, and solely due to the people in the front line, as it's been messed about, cut back, cut again & again.

I do my best to stay clear of politics.  However today's BBC News.   Preti Patel, sorry .  Not very preti in my eyes.

Not sure your opinion on someone's "looks" are particularly relevant to this thread  :(   Make your point by all means but try to avoid the usual sexist crap for heavens sake.
Handsome is as handsome does is a phrase that's been in use for hundreds of years. I'd say it's just as sexist to jump to the conclusion that a man can only consider a women visually rather than judge her by her actions. She's an ill mannered bully and her gender provides her with no excuse for her actions.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
