For once we have been lucky. We were texted in early October, booked a booster for the 7th at local Pharmacy, they did flu at the same time. The 7th was exactly 6 months from our 2nd jab. No contact from GP at any time.
I think I must be a cynic. I heard another minister on the radio this morning talking about the vaccination/booster rollout.
I get the impression that the gov wants to be seen as the gov that gets things done and wants that to stick in the voters' brain. The meme. They already have Brexit (whether the results is good or bad or even still in dispute) - they got it done. The vaccine rollout is another of those cases I think. Boris et al want the success of the rollout to be remembered. The problem then is that we're seeing that the vaccine isn't the be all and end all of controlling the virus. So now they're caught between a rock and a hard place. They wanted the vaccine to be the only fix - so they could say - 'hey look at what we did with the rollout' (whether it was them or the NHS or... anyway). But if the fix was a mix of interventions, the vaccine being the most important, but not the only one - what do they do? Do they say 'wear masks, distance and don't congregate indoors' - and that then brings the numbers down - BUT it damages their message of ' hey look at the vaccine rollout'. Can they persist with that message, when what will reduce the numbers this winter is going to be seen to be other interventions? I think they're clinging to the vaccine as the 'route', simply because that's their message. Policy has to fit the message.
@steveTu I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who would strongly refute B's claim to have "got Brexit done". They are still arguing about NI / Irish Sea border and the French fishing rights. They have presumably also twigged ( tho won't admit ) that stopping free movement hasn't exactly worked in their favour either. The vaccine rollout did make the UK look good initially and the scientists involved with the research were rightly commended. What has happened since then (ie the UK having one of the highest infection rates globally if the figures are correct ) is presumably down to the Govt being too busy patting themselves on the back to notice what was happening. That and their tendency to give multi million contracts to testing laboratories without checking their capabilities beforehand didn't help. Still, I suppose so long as B can be heard/seen wittering on about the UK as a Global Power, we can all relax and take his word for it
@CostumedVole, Had 2nd jab 19th April. Just had text invite and have booked booster for next Wed. Could have booked Sunday but as we're having flu jabs Sat, didn't want them both too close together. Hope you get your invite soon.
My Mum (87) had her booster and flu jab together, one in each arm. No ill effects as she never had any before. Another month before I get my Covid booster but had my flu jab a month ago, just a walk in at the chemist, saw the notice in the window, popped in and out in 3 minutes!!

I was just being ultra cautious @madpenguin, mainly because I've usually had a very painful, swollen arm following a flu jab (although I didn't last year, which was rather surprising). I need to be able to sleep on one side at least!

Thank you. I feel fine about it now I know I'm not overdue and it was all my own bad maths! I had my flu jab nearly four weeks ago, so I hope they don't expect you to have both. Not that I mind having a second flu jab. Belt and braces! Very glad you've got yours sorted.
