@Fire puts me in mind of the joke about someone praying to God to win the lottery and it never happening until eventually he says his usual prayer and God answers along the lines of "You're going to have to meet me half way and buy a ticket". Putting all your trust in God and taking no steps whatever to help yourself is .... I dunno what it is. Stupid doesn't seem to cover it, quite.

I guess it depends if one is wandering about the world looking for things to be offended about. If you carry a bag of umbrage about, then it's always to hand. We can celebrate science and the triumphs of humanism or take change and learning as an attack.
Outward-looking religious academics like Rowan Williams,Newton and Charles Darwin, saw no contradiction in celebrating science; there isn't an inherent contradicton there.
I have just read that the Prefect of the Vendée has announced that masks must be worn in all the usual indoor meeting places but also crowded outdoor spaces - railway and bus station, busy pedestrian streets, markets etc until 31/1/22 and by anyone aged 11+.
Seems sensible to me.
Yes @Fire, that was barbaric. I'm sorry you experienced that. Bad enough when healthy but totally unacceptable in a hospital.

Very impressed by the French approach again. We need to stop all this mixed messaging from our Gov. It is no wonder people do stupid things. Ministers are told this at every meeting I have attended, why won’t they listen?
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
How can this government expect people to cancel or restrict their Christmas celebrations when they behaved as they did last year? I can’t help thinking that “they” know something that we don’t. Why else do they flout the rules? Have they no concern for their own safety?
I think what I'm finding frustrating is the comparative lack of information - but the gov then insisting it's up to the individual to make certain decisions. When Covid was at its peak, there were daily briefings and the scientists were brought out of the closet to present the more factual data - then the gov added their spin. Now, as Covid was becoming back page news (until Omicron), we don't have the briefings to know what is going on. We just have the gov spin line that seems to be saying 'it's fine to get out there and party like it's 1999 - but it's your decision'.
I thought, from the little on the news, that the health service was already suffering with major issues across the country with the ambulance services being over stretched and the NHS not having the beds - and that was before the onset of winter proper and Omicron. I still appear to be seeing 30k+ cases a day, 700+ hospitalisations, 7k in hospital and 1k+ deaths a week - but is that acceptable and workable? And, even without the uncertainty of Omicron, with a 'Christmas gatherings' spike - would the spike projections be acceptable (in way of impact on the health services)?
How can you make the decision of whether to go to the office party or not, to meet up with friends and family etc without knowing the information?

Because Boffle only came into politics for the short term and desperately wants to be popular … he has no self control and is incapable of making firm decisions. We are being governed by an emotionally needy toddler.

I completely agree but he didn’t party on his own so the high ups obviously felt they were perfectly safe socialising even last year. I won’t be changing my Christmas plans unless forced to do so.

I still regret not reporting them. I was so furious - and in tears - at the time.
