@Valley Gardener your friend in Brittany does not have to be in the healthcare system here to get the jab, as long as they take their proof of identity and residence here they can get it, but having said that there are no appointments at the moment and if they go on line or look at the local paper it will tell you where your nearest vaccination centre is.
  • @floralies. She is in the system and has been since moving there 17 years ago. The area she is in (Callac) has no cases,so I suppose the doc isnt bothered.  We lived there too for a few years and found the Health service second to none, but thats maybe because we paid a % into it every month,as no doubt you do.

I finally had mine today after turning up two weeks ago as advised by my Government to be told I wasn't eligible yet only to get a letter today to be told I am now eligible.

Got the letter at 14:00 today. Went online used the online booking service and got an appointment for 16:40 today. Something of a relief as the wife simply cant care for herself if I were to go down with this blasted virus. Anyway 1st dose done. I Hope everyone here gets there shot soon. Hang in there everyone wont be long now for you to.

  • Did you see what boris said at the vacination centre? The nurse gave him a glove that was too small.
He said: I feel like o.j.simpson!!
    Good grief...

    I know! Poor taste!
Also he referenced the song by Goldie Looking Chain ‘Fresh Prince of Cwmbran’ - someone was googling Cwmbran before he went.

Just to say my 22 yr old with (mild) asthma got his first jab today in Sheffield. Was called yesterday, and no one was more surprised than him!

A friend who has just got an appointment for their vaccine jab posted this https://www.arminarm.net/
which seems to me like a good idea. I confess I haven't interrogated it yet, but he is a savvy and trusted friend so I thought I'd pass it on.

Just thought I would report my experience of having the AstraZeneca vaccine. I had read on here about people having side effects which I was a bit sceptical about as I've never, ever had a side effect from any vaccine I've had in my life.

However about 12 hours after having it I met up with a friend for a walk despite feeling really quite rough but I persevered doing a 3 hour walk which by the end my legs were frankly ready to give out due to their aching. I went home and continued to feel quite rough with a mild headache and mild flu like symptoms. After a good rest and a nights sleep All cleared up and 48 hours later and everything's back to normal. A mitigating factor might also be that prior to having the vaccine I went for a 6 mile run which I wouldn't have done had I known I was going to have it that day. (It was a last minute notification)

My wife, my sister, my brother and brother in law all had the Pfizer vaccine and had no side effects at all. Maybe someone who had the Pfizer can advise of their experience of this vaccine.

I would say given a choice (I wasn't) and the evidence from other family members  I would take the Pfizer vaccine if your offered a choice, but whatever you do if your not given a choice just take whatever your offered as despite the side effects I experienced with the AstraZeneca vaccine which seem quite common since I've looked further into it (1 in 10 will experience side effects according to the leaflet I was given) and after further trial analysis the AstraZeneca vaccine is proving to be quite effective against the dominant strain in the UK.

So basically what I'm saying is if you do have the AZ vaccine and you experience similar symptoms to what I and others have described on the forum it appears to be a known effect and not to worry about it to much.

Obviously I'm not a Doctor so anything I say here is based on my experience ONLY and any concerns you have should be raised with your GP.

Hope you all get your jabs soon so we can all get back to some semblance of normality whatever that will be in the future.
