We changed our plans nearly a month ago when we could see the way the numbers were going. We have been doing the same as some others, exchanging cards etc on the doorstep. Instead of our usual large gathering it will just be us. On a short walk yesterday we passed by a local bus at a stop, 2 young women were getting on, 2 young men were getting off, none wearing masks, says it all.
Several of us on this thread have been trying to explain how serious this is, but some, labled us as panickers and worryers determined to dismiss what we said as exaggeration , that's why I refrained from commenting earlier, I I needed to quell my anger first.
@Songbird-1 - couldn’t agree with you more. My Mum is 93 and there’s not been a thing out of her GP’s surgery about getting the vaccine. The silence is deafening. Mum thinks that the first priority over 80’s category should actually have been split with the over 90’s taking preference. She knows a good number of active over 90’s who would really benefit. Not everybody that age is waiting at the pearly gates!
So considerate towards the many people having to work Christmas Day to make it the only day they could celebrate with family and friends. Well done Boris!
Just heard a minister (Shapps) on Radio4 talking about asymptomatic transmission (edited to add) - the anecdote about his friend's wedding - as though it was something new and special to the new strain. I thought asymptomatic transmission had been known about for months, even with the strains that were prevalent then.
Better to have worked on meeting up Christmas day and have it cancelled, than be arranging a funeral at this time. Boris didn't start the pandemic. We decsided weeks ago, not to get together this year, not worth the risk. I still cannot believe how many people are still going into shops without masks. An old friend from work, says the Hospitals in Kent, and Surrey are over run
We were at the sm door today for it's opening at 6am,partly OH worrying about food shortages but mostly to keep away from people.Unfortunately only one manned till was open so we had to go through self scan.Fine,we don't mind the self service, i did work on them for what seems a million years, but, and i don't know why,the assistant who's not exactly young wasn't wearing any face covering at all.Nothing.She never has.
I know in the first lockdown said sm paid tribute to nine workers who had died after contracting Covid.
I was wondering if anyone knows of the number of supermarket employees who have unfortunately died as a result of contracting Covid 'on the job'.
I've just come back from the supermarket and it was very very busy and I was there at 7.30am.if I haven't got it now then tough!I've stocked up on the basics but will from now on go to the local farmers markets which are great.we even have a milk dispenser nearby in a shed! Like others in worried my parents haven't had the offer of the vaccine yet.dad has dementia.mum will not stop going out.i go once a fortnight to the supermarket.she goes twice a week.every day she's out.oh dear..
OH has just gone down to the supermarket to buy food for Christmas as we hadn't been expecting to be here. He said he'd come straight back if the queues were too bad and he's been gone a while so hopefully it's not too busy.
My 95 year old mum hasn't been out since March and would love to have the vaccine but hasn't yet heard anything, although I know quite a few people round here who've had the vaccine. I wonder whether they're prioritising areas with high case numbers. Here in Essex the numbers are terrifying but in Cambridge, where my mum lives, they're much lower.
OH works in retail on a garden centre site ... it’s a small shop so they’re only allowing two customers in at a time ... there are large notices, sanitising stations and barriers at the door ... he says the number of folk who march straight past the sanitizer, move the barrier and walk in, often without a mask, has to he seen to be believed.
The other day a smart, late middle aged gentleman (red corduroy trousers and a Barbour) walked in with his mask just over his mouth and not his nose ... OH asked him politely but firmly to wear his mask properly ... he hurrumphed but complied and started his shopping ... he was buying champagne flutes ... at the counter he held each one up to the light to inspect it ... fair enough ... then he pulled down his mask and blew an imaginary speck of dust off the glass in his hand 😱 🤯 blowing towards OH of course 😡... is it any wonder OH wears a three layer mask and a full face visor and still comes home stressed that he’ll bring the virus home to me. 😞
