Does having the pneumonia jab afford any protection from succumbing to the pneumonia associated with Covid 19?

I asked this question of my GP’s surgery the other day - online, it’s about the only means of contacting them these days - and they replied saying the pneumonia jab won’t protect you from Covid. That wasn’t what I asked.

@BenCotto  As I understand it pneumonia jab protects you against Viral Pneumonia, but not against  the sort of bacterial pneumonia that arises from congestive conditions such as Covid, bronchitis, aspiration of fluids etc.

Hopefully @punkdoc will correct me if I’m wrong. 😊

The pneumonia jab protects you from types of pneumonia caused by the pneumococcal bacteria only. The flu jab may protect you from certain strains of flu, and therefore the viral pneumonia associated with it.

Pneumonia is just a term to describe lung infection/inflammation, and these may be caused by viruses, bacteria or fungi and can be also developed by being on a ventilator, aspirating fluid or after an operation or illness. It can be mild through to life-threatening with sepsis. In COVID the lungs can also develop a respiratory distress syndrome with fluid filling the lungs making breathing and ventilation difficult.

In answer to your question @bencotto I would say no, but the pneumonia jab can protect against pneumococcal pneumonia, which you may be more susceptible to if you have a respiratory condition like COVID.
Just my understanding from my knowledge, so feel free to read around.

Empty toilet paper rolls are handy to
    -  keep in your handbag to open a door handle
    -  fill with soil and sow a parsnip seed to later place in the ground. Keeps parsnips check to grow straight down
A good hoeing is worth two waterings.

Don’t forget that whilst that mask is dangling or warming your neck, it is collecting bugs that you might then press against your face.
Also, yes it’s warm, annoying and others can’t hear you as well, but keep it on please.

Others have answered the question. Even if it doesn't make a difference to Covid-related pneumonia it protects you from other forms. We had ours at Boots in January - my husband could see the writing was on the wall with Covid in Asia.
