Brighton beach yesterday! What were they thinking.......and not a mask in sight. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️
You don't need to wear a mask to go the beach.

Also, the angle of that photo makes it impossible to see the gaps between households/groups.  Its deliberately provocative.

I'm not really surprised,  so many at the beaches.  It's a cause of confusion to me that we went into lockdown when it was first discovered........things have been getting back to normal over the last number of weeks.  Numbers with Covid going down, everywhere......surely more people have it now than back in March?........where has it gone?  What am I missing?

My poor mother is really distressed at the moment.  She's in her 70's and hasn't been outside the house since March and doesn't feel it's safe enough to go out unless everyone is wearing some form of face mask.  She and others feel left behind as our family gathering government has not made it mandatory to wear face coverings while indoors eg. Shops
My mother's the same @Mary370. She's 95 and has been choosing to self isolate since before lockdown began. She won't even let us visit. I worry that she will be too afraid to meet up with anyone for months to come.
My grandma is 84 and we are now pushing her to get out a bit so she doesn't end up with crippling anxiety and vulnerable to dementia, which would be much worse for her than Covid.  She's gone for a couple of walks with my mum and has been to visit in their garden.  Next is to venture back into a garden centre.

Its not gone anywhere, but the story the government want to tell is that the crisis is over, so that's the mood they are trying to create.

The virus seems to struggle to spread outdoors, so I'm not too worried about the beaches etc. in terms of transmission.

@FlyDragon  I wouldn't want to be sitting on a beach that crowded without the covid virus about.  Not my idea of a pleasant day at the coast.
The angle of the shot might not be 100% correct, but still far too many on a beach for social distancing. 🤷🏻‍♀️

My husband and I once went to a small island on the Great Barrier reef, sat on a completely empty beach about a mile long and guess what? Another couple emerged from the bushes 10 minutes later and sat down right next to us, maybe they just didn't want to appear stand-offish but we would have preferred to maintain the illusion that we were the only ones on the island.

I wouldn't go because its far too hot!

However there's absolutely no way to tell on social distancing unless you're actually there or you have an overhead shot.  The media outlets posting these photos just seem to want to whip up tension and outrage.  I was listening to radio 4 on the way home from work and journalists who were actually there said the vast majority were following the guidelines.

On public transport, and in hospital buildings.

If you WANT to wear one at other times then that is up to you, but please don't get angry at other people for not doing.  The evidence is not conclusive anyway, and there is very little risk in outdoor spaces even at close quarters.

I have to wear one at work, they are uncomfortable, especially in the hot weather, and very few untrained people actually use them correctly.

They also make communication very difficult, especially for people who rely on lip reading.  I keep other people safe by practicing excellent hygiene and distancing, which is proven to be the most effective prevention.

All supermarkets have said they want people to wear masks when going into the store. As have other shops.
