What do they say to speeders ... better late than dead on time?

I come from a place where there were three buses a week ... I cycled three miles to a bus stop to catch a bus at 7.55am to get to work 12 miles away.

If lots of folk are turning up late for work because they've had to get off the bus in order to stay safe employers are going to start complaining to Councillors etc ... it's businesses that can put real pressure on ...

It's no good harrumphing about people not wearing masks and then just accepting it ...but it's not going to help causing fisticuffs on the bus either.

@andymorris, have you considered raising an incident with your local police force?

Once you have an incident number, keep emailing them every time you are on a bus full of people not wearing masks. Take the bus registration number, time you got on/off. If there are no children on the bus, I’d also be tempted to take a photo as evidence to pass onto the police.  They can also check CCTV on the bus.

  • I am rather behind things on this thread but reading back...
I think it is correct that the North went into, & hence came out of, lock down too early, the transmission rates never really dropped enough so when restrictions were lifted the rate just took off again. As usual with these things it was all centred around London. Now there are lots of other anomalies, we use the Covid symptom tracker app and our area of suburban N London has apparently, had high rates for some time yet nothing is being said we are not subject to any special measures. Nottingham has the highest rate anywhere yet only Liverpool is being put into tier 3.  It made me think, either they are privy to information we are not or  are subjected to intense lobbying from people of influence. Then I remembered an ex work colleague who always said, "there are two grand theories, conspiracy and co*k up. 99 times out of 100 when you think it's conspiracy its the other one".

We went to a shopping centre yesterday for something we needed. My wife challenged several people in the store we were in for wearing their masks on their chins or neck, telling them they may as well wear it on their behind, she is of very small stature but utterly fearless when she thinks something is wrong, it makes me squirm but she is right to speak out.

Three students here in Norwich were fined £10,000 each yesterday https://www.edp24.co.uk/news/crime/uea-students-fined-after-throwing-party-at-norwich-home-1-6879803

Other UEA students are livid with them

Then the only other thing I can suggest is report it to your local council. Hopefully, they have COVID marshalls who can deal with it. Good luck.
  • Sometimes I wonder if some people want to beat this virus. Number 10 leaks good ideas then other MP s and mayor's seem to think there is a easier way to do it, I understand the economy has to keep going but some places have to shut to stop the spread and if its true that this virus can be a 2 year project is it worth protecting not viable business, and this 3 tier system in my opinion is rubbish. Let's get a national programme going with no house mixing and face covers in all locations and then you will see a big decrease in infections I would say at least 1 year and half I know it sounds bad but the virus needs to be eradicated, then no travel abroad as all the hard work would be for nothing.
  • How has China come out of this?test test test.yes I know they started it.theres a great article online for free in the new yorker.if we had spent all the money on testing instead of the billions weve wasted on everything else wed been in a very different place now.but no.lets have tiers and closing times and stay home and oh good grief I give up 😬

Jason, no mixing of houses, no travel, the virus would be eradicated, I guess if we all stayed indoors, didnt shop etc, it might go away. What about mental health, people awaiting cancer diagnosis and treatment.  Some of my neighbours shielding for months living alone, now shadows of their former shelves.  Not realistic, we have to learn to live with it, same as flu and all the other horrible things

Breaking news from tiny town Utah:
“The final varsity football game of the season for (our) High School and a freshman/sophomore game were canceled Tuesday (Oct. 13) due to exposure of COVID-19 among team members, according to a press release.

(Our) School District officials said they were saddened about the cancellations but they were necessary because the majority of the school's varsity football players and coaches had close, prolonged contact with an individual who has tested positive for COVID-19. The contact took place during an indoor team meeting on Monday where masks were not worn, the press release states.”

The teacher/coach held an extended meeting inside a classroom at the high school with masks discouraged - because 'big tough football players don't wear masks' attitude.  Masks are required inside schools at all times (aside from lunch).  Serves them right, having their game canceled, and he ought to be fired as coach for not enforcing school policy and safety protocols.

Utah is crazy with this whole sports thing.  Schools in the Salt Lake City area are shutting down due to massive outbreaks, but sports teams keep playing games to a stadium or indoor sports hall full of chin warmer wearing fans.  There are so many Covid cases at a school that the learning environment is unsafe (which I agree to, schools with outbreaks need to shut down temporarily) but indoor volleyball games, wrestling matches with competitors from across the state, and indoor gym training for football can still go on?!  Covid just spreads around those students, who then go home to family and siblings and church, then hangout with other groups of students.  I feel that maybe sports needs to take a lower precedent than education.. and that if there is any sort of community spread, sports should be the first thing paused.  Instead we load them on a bus and send them all around the state and even to neighboring states for the all important competitions.   Even when their in-person school has shut down due to outbreak!

No mandatory testing either, and rumors of parents discouraging each other from getting sports kids tested due to symptoms - because it would be 'their kids fault the game got canceled'.  Just load them up on meds and send them to school.. or keep them home if it's not a game day.

It’s not for the bus company employees or other citizens to police the law any more than it’s your responsibility to stop someone from breaking the speed limit.
