Just prepped a stew, so that can bubble away whilst the Rugby on.
I would pass out if I had a bat in the house. Or a bird for that matter. I love wildlife but freak out at fluttery flappy creatures in close proximity 😱
maybe the bat had got into the loft and somehow come down via the pipework.
Quite likely. They go into dark spaces so often end up in chimneys. Cats can bring them in sometimes.
Ideally you shouldn't let them go in daylight - try to get them into a box in a dark, quiet place and then leave the box outside at dusk to let them fly off on their own. They can get disoriented in daylight and injure themselves trying to fly.
It sounds like it was probably a pipistrelle of one sort or another.
It's very easy to disturb them and they'll disappear somewhere quieter. In the UK, bats are one of the most highly protected wildlife species. You can get into all sorts of trouble just for handling them unless it's obviously just trying to help a bat in distress. And they can carry rabies so best not to touch them really. I usually tell people to phone the batline here (yeah, I know, but you'd be surprised how often I get asked that sort of thing). The bat people will come very quickly to help a bat in distress

I didn’t sleep too well last night ... no idea why ... I’ve managed to avoid napping on the sofa today and have been sent to bed now ... pretty sure I’ll be asleep before Round Britain Quiz ... I’ve set it to record.
Speaking of quizzes and clever folk ... so sad to hear that ‘Incredible Knowledge Dave’ Rainford of Eggheads has died at the age of 51 ... far too young ... tributes I’ve read confirm that he was a kind and gentle man ... just as he appeared on the TV.
RIP Dave. 😞

Just back from the concert, still stuffed from a rather good meal...
No more bats. Fortunately yesterday's appeared in the living room after dark, so there was no problem letting it go outside. We didn't actually "handle" it, @raisingirl - just steered it with a cloth... so hopefully that would be acceptable to the authorities. Bats are protected here in Ireland too, we discover.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

We've been to Morrisons, south Norfolk, no problem for loo rolls, the only things they are short of are hand gel and hand wash.
Happy Birthday @Liriodendron 💐🎂🍾

@Lizzie27, do you have a photo of the Bentley?

More rain overnight.
I was hoping for some sunshine as we have 10 viewings on the flat this afternoon.
