Morning @Dovefromabove, I wish the ground was hard enough to take a wheelbarrow over.

It’s still a bit soggy here ... but I’m sure it’s worse in your garden.

    I was joking @raisingirl

OH got rid of his mistress yesterday - his much loved 1948 Bentley. His father bought it in 1954 and it's been in the family ever since, but it's a huge car, 17 ft long x 6ft+ wide with no power steering and no seatbelts. The gears were on the right hand side between the seat and door. It only did 16 miles to the gallon so not cheap to fill up and a nightmare to park. It was lovely (sometimes) to drive in - I always felt I should wear a hat and gloves and sit in the back royally waving!

OH actually learnt to drive in it in London and his brother used to drive them to school in it, where he cheekily asked the Headmaster if he could park it in the staff car park because he didn't want it scratched!  We shall miss it (him more than me), we used it for our wedding so lots of sentimental memories but it was a big money-pit and needed very expensive body repairs so had to go.

I'm sure someone new will love your OH's Bentley, @Lizzie27.  Wise move, though no doubt quite a wrench...

Greetings all.  It's officially afternoon, but since it's my birthday, I've not done a lot this morning... fed the birds though, that's obligatory, birthday or not.  I'm being taken out for a meal later, followed by a concert of early music (just my cup of tea  :) ).

Yes, @raisingirl, we have a chimney but it ends in a closed stove.  However, the plumbers had been tinkering with the back boiler, and the door to the controls was open, so maybe the bat had got into the loft and somehow come down via the pipework.

Bit wet here too.  Pity, could have celebrated with some weeding...

    Happy birthday @Liriodendron!!

I once found a bat whizzing round our landing in Belgium.  No idea how it got in - cat?  open window? - but I had the devil of a job fishing it out from where it was hiding behind a radiator cover and getting it out of a window.  Not grateful.

A couple of seasons later our nightly gathering reduced from about 30 to just one or two if were lucky enough to spot them.  No idea why as I filled our garden with plants to attract pollinators and we had loads of insects buzzing about by the pond too.

Afternoon all, I am absolutely shattered.  Have just spent about 3 hours in the garden tidying borders and clearing out loads of housebricks and rubbish in the ground where the trees were felled.  Loads of ivy and periwinkle cut back. Tried to remove a laurel bush but couldn't get it to budge so now it will be cut down and attacked with a pick axe when I get the strength.  It definitely wont be today.  I think another couple of sessions will see the garden back in order.  We are getting all the rubbish removed as there is no way we will be able to do it with the green bin collections.  Relaxing now with a cuppa and will be looking at plant porn to decide what to plant in the new bed.  We are lucky that our garden drains away fairly well so no trouble with standing water or waterlogged borders.  Mind you the pond is overflowing.  Hope everyone enjoys their weekend.

    Thanks, @Dovefromabove and @Obelixx!   :)

I'd love to know what sort of bat it was,  but it was moving so fast we only got a rough idea of its size (similar to a blue tit in wingspan, I'd guess) and colour (blackish).  Must look up bat species found in Ireland.

Have fun with the plant porn, @Yviestevie!  My daughter wants to know what plant she can give me for my birthday so I'm doing the same...   :)

    Happy birthday @Liriodendron.
The chap that bought the Bentley seemed very enthusiastic about it and is happy to do it up so it's gone to a good home.  Got to get the 1938 Austin 10 out and about now!
