Not for me but my brother-in-law has just laid a new lawn so at least he's getting it watered well.

The cat forum, the woes with neighbours, the Covid crisis ... it makes for depressing reading so I have been reflecting on my lot and daily I count my blessings. Not a day goes past without my wife or I saying how lucky we are.

The cottage is small but it suits us well and the garden looks good. We are not plagued by invasive weeds, most areas are as we want them to be and we find lots of time to sit back and simply enjoy it.

Then there is the wider community. I have never lived in such an inclusive, helpful village. As my wife is on the extremely vulnerable list there is a plethora of kind folk falling over themselves endeavouring to help. We have wonderful neighbours and, when the times permit, there is a constant stream of invitations to social events. There are no noisy children, neighbourhood pets are no problem, and we live just a mile from the prettiest of market towns.

Rutland is lovely. Pretty, rolling countryside, honey-coloured thatched cottages, welcoming pubs, attractive gardens ... we could not wish for more. Add to that the fact that we are retired so our income is stable and secure. Of course there are troubles and just this week my wife has had phone calls from the secretaries of three of her consultants - mouth, breast and brain cancers are being monitored. You play the hand you’re dealt.

I don’t want to come across as smug but this is the forum where we can be cheerful and others’ despondency was starting to bring me down.

We live in London. The neighbours are fine. Just minor niggles and i haven't seen a cat for months.
Squirrels, foxes and parakeets are a nuisance though.

The lockdown has created many 'double edge swords'.  For example, my wife is now working from home so I see much more of her. :D

It's my birthday today and I'm glad to say my family are both embracing and encouraging my new gardening obsession!!

I’ve no idea what I’m doing.

Great stuff.  I love my Sneeboer trowel but, a word of warning, that elegant wooden handle is so discreet they can hide for ages.
