All scrubbed and polished now and the hot shower has eased my achey muscles thanks Joyce. I've just looked out of my back window and I have 6 Mrs P's in the garden gleaning on what the starlings scatter from the feeders.
Read your refill post with interest PF and I have to say that I'm not surprised. Just a bit more fed up when I'm trying my best to reduce single use plastics in my house.
Debs, my Dad was colour blind and it often led to us having hysterics when we saw his sock choices! His quip was the often used, 'I've got another pair just like those in the drawer.' He took it all in good part though.
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
Morning LB, Joyce, Pansy, Rubee and Debs. Yes my grandma was ver smart and would never have gone out without looking stylish and well put together. LB and Joyce I do hope you get some better weather soon. Debs you must feel pleased that you have a lovely outfit which your mother would have approved. I’m sure you’ll look lovely and it’s good to remember times when mum was well and able to do the things she liked.
Brawn boots , I ask you ?when all the rest wore dacent black and morning suits I didn’t know , he didn’t say he’d gived his uver boots away . Perhaps someone else can fill in the gaps .
No doubt they will have some plausible reason Pansy.
I have just struggled to pull an empty bin up the steps, holding one wheel and trying not to topple down to join it. I was hoping to see a chap walking out walking to do it for me but no luck.
Afternoon - waiting for the weather to kick in so I've done anything which needed doing outside already. Joyce - you be careful!
Elton John, Mars bars and cheese fondue - now that is one weird dream....
I'm another uncordinated person. I can hear my mother nattering away if I wear black shoes with a brown bag or vice versa and ‘blue and green shouldn’t be seen’ (one of my favourite colour combos).
In a similar vein I also really struggle with eating standing up / in the street etc etc because all I can hear is her telling me off for being ‘common’. It’s a real pain at some of the foodie markets we like to go to. Drives OH mad as I wander round for ages trying to find a bench while the food goes cold. Just cannot tuck in when standing up. And as for drinking out of bottles & cans.... Amazing how our parents live with us long after they’ve gone.
Debs - It sounds as though you’ve spent a lot of time planning your mum’s funeral and trying to get everything just right. I hope everything goes as well as these things possibly can.
Pansy - good luck on the recycling front. I’ve come to terms with the fact there is only so much I as an individual can do but I’ve made a conscious effort to use a greener alternative when it’s straightforward to do so. Controversially that has meant buying more plastic.
I now have several little nylon drawstring bags that we bought in Germany last year. These are used for buying loose fruit & veg & can be reused hundreds of times. The veg is then decanted into plastic boxes or Mr Weightynose ‘compostable plastic’ bags (each one reused about 20 times) to keep it fresh in the fridge.
I have loads of small plastic boxes (some old & some bought for this purpose) from Lakeland so food is stored in those in the fridge & freezer rather than covering with cling film or putting in single use plastic bags.
Seems daft buying plastic to reduce plastic use but it really is the single use plastic which is so dreadful. My boxes and nylon bags will see me out.... Wish fresh milk was more widely available in bottles or even Tetra-Pak.
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
I love those milk vending machines and really wish more places had them.
You'll see from your recycling thread that I'd really like to see more of the dispenser / refill options in shops. One excellent farm shop in Skipton has dispensers for all sorts of dry goods - cereals, nuts, dried fruit, flour, sugar etc etc. and I think they also have dispensers to refill washing liquid / washing up liquid bottles.
This particular shop is very, very well patronised and they have a very high turn over of produce so all their stuff is beautifully fresh and good quality. All fruit & veg is loose and they only use paper bags.
You'd think it might be expensive and a bit exclusive but it's not. Fruit, veg, meat and dry goods are round the same pricing point as 'sco or S'burys and some things a bit cheaper. For anybody on a real budget it must be great to be able to go and buy a small quantity of something knowing they're not being ripped off price wise.
We stop there and stock up whenever we're passing.
