I took the dog for a walk earlier to see how the stream down the road is looking. There's loads of nice waterfalls and things that look pretty spectacular after a good rain. Turns out though that the road bridge dammed up and overflowed which has washed all the gravel from the pathways leaving just the weed membrane behind. There must have been some crazy water flowing through there to gouge that much material out. I think the paths were all lottery funded too so I don't think the council will be interested in replacing the surface.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
The soil is a mix of big rocks and thick clay luckily. It takes some convincing to move anywhere. Having said that there has been a few landslips along the stream where it undercut the bank. We're right at the head of the valley here but the stream has quite a broad catchment area above us which I guess is fully saturated after the last few months of rain. I don't think I've ever seen it running so fast.

They are there - if we report rather than flag a dodgy post it's removed quite quickly. If we report a problem they see to it. As for behaviour, we are, on the whole, self-moderating.

No news yet on niece's twins. The hospital in Chertsey decided to 'wait and see' overnight so there was really no need for the dash up there, they might just as well have stayed at home and gone up early today. We think she's being induced this morning but who knows!
