That is sad for your family @fidgetbones, but what a lovely family member to have known and loved. I really enjoyed the programmes too.
Re operations being postponed until people give up smoking/loose weight etc - unfortunately the NHS is at breaking point so this has crept in now and will become more commonplace. It does seems unfair to be denied an operation but the evidence is strong that high risk patients who can minimise their risk should do so.
@AnniD, makes you wonder why stuff suddenly starts happening! The oddities of internet sites!
Stuff suddenly happening on t'interweb is generally caused by changes made to the software to cure a bug or to 'improve' performance. The change may do both, but without full testing there is the risk that it will introduce more new problems.
Is this flu any worse than your regular flu? Every year there is a new strain and some unfortunate people die. Is this year's one really any different?
Very different. Spreads much more easily, although seems to kill less people. There is growing evidence of spread outside of China, with no contact with china. There is a growing danger that it could become a global pandemic.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
Hmmm. We know form studies into the origins and spread of "Spanish flu" that it started from one Kansas boy infected with bird flu and drafted into the US army to go and fight in WW1. Despite warnings from medics the Army chose not to isolate and the disease spread and evolved and ended up killing millions. The Chinese in the original outbreak area have also spread far and wide before the problem was acknowledged so their contacts won't be easy to track or quantify.
The best we can do is maintain personal hygiene, especially proper hand washing, and self isolate to reduce spread from coughs and sneezes. Common sense.

A riddle: what is this contraption? Fed up with political correctness and the "precautionary principle". Reading the excerpt from the operating instructions manual below, can you tell which machine/apparatus/machine this is? a) brushcutter b) kitchen knife (c) BERETTA A300 MAX5 semi-automatic rifle d) Leclerc battle tank e) other (please specify)
