I didn’t think there was a vote to join, only later a vote to stay in. Perhaps I’m wrong, I’m so old my memory’s uselessšŸ˜€

I found myself wishing there was a Monster Raving Loony candidate on our ballot. I like their manifesto promise.Ā
"We will replace the traditional Christmas Tree for every home in the UK with a Magic Money Tree."

But no, just the usual suspects. And the same result no doubt - one of the safest of safe seats here which does make you wonder 'what's the point'. But we went anyway and voted. Rather damply.

I mustĀ  admitĀ  that, in the past, I have found some of theirĀ  proposals genuinelyĀ  appealing.Ā
I haven'tĀ  seen the oneĀ  for this election.Ā

The UK joined the Common Market in 1973 with Denmark and Ireland.Ā  Ā Ted Heath was PM so it was the Conservatives who got the UK in.Ā  The following Labour government wanted to renegotiate the terms and held a referendum in 1975 to decide whether we should stay or leave.

Every single member state has a proportionate number of representatives in all the EC/EU institutions - Council, parliament, the various departments from trade to finance to foreign - and an equal chance to influence policy so please do not complain that some mysterious anonymous cabal in Brussels decided to go for political and monetray union.Ā  The Brits were there every step of the way, including as head of major directorates and had the chance, if they wanted, to join w ith other countries who wanted to go more slowly and control the Franco-German machine.Ā  The Brits tho never took the EU seriously or understood how much good it does, or potential it has, despite obvious faults.

As for the 2008 crash, it was a Labour government that presided over that and, by propping up the banks and their investors, bankrupted the country, leaving the coffers bare in 2010.Ā  They have never left the country in good financial state.

The Conservatives have made a right dog's breakfast of the recovery and their response to growing fascism has been mind blowingly unimaginative and potentially catastrophic.Ā  Ā They've made a right pig's ear of austerity too.

Shame on the lot of them, red and blue.

How is it that all the people who know how to run the country are either driving taxis or cutting hair?

At least staying up all night means I can get depressed about the state of the country in real time :|
