It's never really Christmas til Noddy says it is, of course.

OH likes the Chris de Burgh one. I assume because he can remember most of the words - la la la la la la la la la la. He likes 'Walking in the Air' as well. Mum always liked Mike Oldfield's In Dulci Jubilo - nice and jolly - or 'Oh Holy Night' was her favourite carol. Dad liked Enya's Irish version of Silent Night. I like Jona Lewie's Stop the Cavalry, and Greg Lake's I believe in Father Christmas, and the Eurythmics' version of Winter Wonderland. What I liked about a family Christmas was all of these together - good and bad - and it's sad now there's no reason to listen to Phil Coulter's 'Jingle Bells' because Mum and Dad are not here. But I never used to listen to any of them - given a choice - before Christmas week.

And any of them, even the sainted Kirsty McColl, are deeply tedious by the 10th or 11th time. I hate all of them by Boxing Day and I don't spend much time in shops. I feel very very sorry for people who have to work with it going on for weeks.

I love Annie Lennox and bought this CD when it first came out, I love a good old carol concert, but these days just singalong with Annie.

How often should you clean a dishwasher? I finally got around to giving ours a proper clean this evening and it was pretty manky :# I wipe around the door and stuff fairly regularly but to do a proper job all the seals have to come off and be scrubbed. The stuff that accumulates in the crevices is disgusting and the one door seal is hollow for some stupid reason and it fills up with gunk and has to be squeezed out like a tube of toothpaste. It's just had a 70 degree cycle with white vinegar to rinse it all off and it's sparkling now. It only takes an hour or so to do but I still only do it about once a year.

I also bought a massive metre long flat duster this week so I've been dusting under and behind everything which has been very satisfying in a very sad way. It's easier than moving furniture about anyway. I was just giving it a shake outside and saw a shooting star too. I'm sure there's better ways to spend a Sunday evening though...

I got a skinny hooky one on a  bendy extendable stick for a couple of quid That was quite satisfying. A bit like when you stop a squeak with WD40 and wander around the house looking for another squeak to get the same buzz.

Haha I desqueaked the rocking chair the other day and then decided to do all the door hinges afterwards.

  • Haha I’ve had my lovely dishwasher for nearly 25 years with no repairs needed. He puts himself in the shower 🚿 and gives himself a thorough scrub 🧼 every morning. I have to do nothing 😊
