It's also a state of mind. I know people younger than I am who are shutting down as they have no more ambitions or expectations but I know so many more my age and older who still have a zest for life and lots of plans and interests.

A bad night's sleep and a coffee free morning. Morrison's have picked the wrong day to send us a £50 parking charge for staying 30mins too long in their carpark. I have penned them a formal letter (OK I typed a shirty email) suggesting they are discriminating against women with young children who have to allow extra time to do nappy changes and breast feeding on top of the time they allow for a 'normal' person to use their facilities.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
Do all your local SMs do that @wild edges? Seems a good way to encourage customers to go elsewhere. The ones we use have enormous car parks and thir buildings include hairdressers, flower shops, newsagents, jewellers, cafés, restaurants and occasional themed displays and activities to encourage people to stay and play and spend. Our usual also has a kids' playground.

It's quite common down this way - especially when the SM is on a shared site or near town. It seems to be done to stop people using the SM as free car parking all day when the town has a pay and display policy. When the hospital car park was free - you had the same idiots parking free there all day - ignoring the poor sods who had to use the hospital or had someone to visit. It always the same - the people who abuse things bugger it up for all the others (and I'm not talking about @wild edges there).
I don't think most people are aware as the limit is normally quite high (2 or 3 hours) so normally ample time for SM shopping.
Nope just that one. There's a massive public carpark just over the road so if my wife knew they had such a short time restriction she would have just parked there. The supermarket carpark is just easier if there's parent and child spaces available. I'll be quite happy not to shop there again if they stick to their guns. I can get equally crap service at Asda.

It's the same around Norwich ... the selfish few seemed to think they could use supermarket car parks as Park & Ride and catch a bus into the city, either to work, shop or go to the football ... even our local Waitrose has just introduced number plate recognition cameras at the car park because it's right by a frequent bus route into the city centre, although they had to have some sort of planning permission to do it. They've spoiled it for the rest, especially for those who have genuine reasons for taking a bit longer over their shopping etc, like the @wild edges family.

The first time we went to Pisa we eventually ended up parking in an SM car park and then did a shop in there before leaving. They had a ticket on entry system but also a receipt recognition system on exit so it was free because we'd done a decent shop (found goodies for our new bathroom back home plus local wines and delicacies) or we'd have been charged by the hour which seems fair to me.
£50 for 30 minutes is expensive even for central London so I'd vote with my feet and shop elsewhere.

There was a advice published some time ago for motorists penalised for over stopping which suggested that you formally write to the SM's Head office, offering to pay a reasonable amount of £10 say for their inconvenience. As it's on private land, it's a civil matter, they would have to issue a court summons for trespass to make you pay up and would probably not bother as that costs them money. I believe the civil courts view £80 or more as unreasonable in the circumstances. Good luck!
Our store has just had number plate recognition cameras and a 2 hour limit installed. I'm not a fan, but as lots of folk use our car park and walk back up to town rather than pay 60 whole pence for an hour in the town car park, I can see why.
