Me too, like a car, the more things on it, the more to go wrong.

Those phones you can use to make a phone call seem like a good idea.
I got a new microwave combination  oven. Pages and pages in the booklet explaining how you can program it to do everything but shell the peas and all at the touch of a dozen buttons. I will just use the microwave when i want to microwave and the convection when I want to convect. I don't give a rat's about the other things it can do.

I don't like the way that everything has to be touch screen and have noisy bleeps for every function. Our new kettle bleeps three times when it's done boiling and the washing machine plays a smug little tune when it's done, the dishwasher beeps incessently when it's finished a cycle too. Every button has a bleep, bloop or blort noise so it's like playing some 80s synth record when you just want to set an extra rinse for your undies. We've got a baby monitor that bleeps so loudly with every touch of a button that it could wake children in the next street.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

It’s ok, it’s just the pump,  he had one on board so all done.
Brilliant service from our local shop. I buy all our electrical items from them, instant delivery and service.

We had a shop like that in Belgium @Lyn.  Great service and value for money too.   On the other hand, I couldn't get the Flemish suppliers to come and look at my Rangemaster as I hadn't bought it from them but then they weren't there when I bought it from France.  All fixed now we've moved to France.

    Good news @Lyn
Not all new technology has a shorter life. Do you remember when it made more sense to rent a a TV because they were always breaking down?

I once looked after the garden of Director of Nokia and I told him the latest Nokia phone I'd bought for Hubby had a manual running to 140 pages, yet nowhere did it explain how to adjust the volume.
I took it into the Nokia shop in Guildford and asked them, " yeah, it's not in the manual is it? "

When I erected my first polytunnel , it was impossible to do with just using the instructions. I called them almost daily.
    " Hi, what's today's problem?"
    " I trying to do X"
" Yeah, everybody calls when they get to that bit"

    Speechless.

My new portable sewing machine, bought a year ago in La Roche-S-Y for taking to patch machine class so as not to risk my big, heavy, expensive machine, came with an instruction manual in Italian and Portuguese.   Contacted Brother UK and chappy sent me a link to download an English version.  Very handy when I then bought the same machine for Possum from the same shop.

We had a new kitchen installed nearly 3 years ago.  It has a built in oven which thinks I don't want to bake or slow roast anything for more than 1h50mins.   Maddening.  Never occurred to me to ask for more oven info.  Good job I have a real one in the annex that stays on as long as I need.
