    In London. Keen but lazy.
  • Maybe patients aren’t feeling at their best when they’re actually being patients. 😊

I wish I could find out the actual percentage of our tax which goes to the NHS.
From some comments you'd think we were paying the equivalent of staying in a 5 star hotel .
    Devon.
  • I’m sure I heard on the radio last night that Germany spends a third more than the UK on its health system, and that France spends considerably more than the UK just on the administration of the health scheme there.Ā

  • Not the figure you want @Hostafan1 but interesting neverthelessĀ

We've paid for a service that is poor unless we're seriously injured/unconscious. In that situation we don't have a choice to refuse rescuscitation. Private patients have every right to complain but NHS patients do not? GTF.

The taxpayer funds the NHS so we have every right to complain when there are problems.Ā  What we should not be doing is blaming the front line staff for the situation and having a go at them.

My understanding is that the NHS receives about 20% of tax contributions. A person earning about Ā£25K p.a. contributes about 1K per year. The ā€˜cost’ of services varies enormously depending on what you read e.g. one appointment is said to cost up to Ā£300, a one night stay Ā£400 and critical care twice or three times that. Only rough numbers but you can see how the money vanishes.Ā
My garden and I live in South Wales.Ā
  • As KT53 says, of course we have the right to complain ... but to do it effectively you need to do it the right way ... a complaints procedure is in place and this can be triggered via the PALSĀ https://www.nhs.uk/common-health-questions/nhs-services-and-treatments/what-is-pals-patient-advice-and-liaison-service/

Not to mention the cost of medication, so much of which is literally thrown away. Please don’t get me started!Ā

There's a big difference between legitimate complaints and entitled whinging though. And a big difference between complaining at the staff who are just trying to do their job and complaining to the people in charge. Stand outside the hospital doors and listen to the smokers complain about the service while chucking fag butts on the floor for tax payer money to clear up.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
