No word from the plumber about the carpenter yet, @Obelixx
We are off to La Rochelle for 3 days on Monday then Norfolk on the 23rd. I would prefer it to be when I'm here rather than the House Sitter but I don't suppose it matters.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Iām back! Ā Caught the 9.30 into the city ... dashed around M&S returned nightdress, bought pizza, salami and newspaper and caught the 10 past 10 bus home and was indoors in time to listen to Popmaster! Ā
Now Iām going to make a minestrone with courgettes, beans and a green pepper from the garden šĀ
Gardening in Central NorfolkĀ on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Thanks for the comments. Unfortunately Moira can't come as she has an interview next week. It is one of the things making me a bit stressed [ I know that is a bit strange, considering the way I have lived my life, but it is just the way I am these days] Sure everything will be fine. Can I be cheeky and ask which paper you read @Dovefromabove ?
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
I am making Cullen Skink because we've found some undyed smoked haddock.Ā Ā Wrong season really but love it and the shop needs encouarging to stock the good stuff.
We stopped off at the DIY store to buy som enew bolt cutters after mine mysteriously disappeared during or after the move.Ā This is what happens when OH orgaises my tools cos he thinks he's now in charge of DIY.Ā I don't think so.Ā Anyway, now we can cut my rusty rods to make the base to support plastic tubing for butterfly nets on the brassicas.Ā He thought we could just push the plastic bits into the soil.
The weather is looking very good for you on Monday @Busy-Lizzie.Ā Ā Hope you all have a lovely time.Ā Ā You can book mini cruises out to the small islands and and old fortress and the old WW2 submarine base and so on if you fancy getting out on the water.
@punkdoc definitely need to make it a mini-break or even a big break so you are rested for the day of discussions.Ā Ā @Pat E there are safety bars and they can set the speed gradually so it doesn't run away with you.Ā It'll be fine.
What was your score @Dovefromabove ? I got 30 on the first set and 27 on the 2nd. Felt ridiculously smugĀ I must have missed your plumber info @Busy-Lizzie. Hope it's nothing too serious? My new hydrangeas have arrived, which is excellent as I'm hoping to get them in with the daffs/narcissus etc that are going round the base. They look fabulous.Ā I'm sure you'll be fine @punkdoc. You can keep in touch by phone, as and when necessary, and give each other support. Then have a little celebration when you're both back togetherĀ
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Goodness me @punkdoc ... youāll be wanting to know what colour my socks are next š± š¤£. Only joking ... we flit from the Guardian/Observer to the āiā ..... Ā During the week it tends to be the āiā unless thereās something in the Guardian I particularly want to read. We donāt take a paper every day but of late weāve bought one more frequently as I really am getting fed up with the click-bait of the news websites ... even the more reputable ones.Ā

@Fairygirl plumbing was the waste pipe on the spare room loo where the housesitter sleeps. As the room isn't used often and it didn't show anyway I didn't notice the leak which has been leaking for years very slowly. The floorboards under the loo are rotten and need repairing before the plumber can put the loo back. I noticed because when we came back from England there was a puddle on the parquet floor in the study.

Ah - got it @Busy-Lizzie. What a pain. Water does so much damage.Ā It's better when it's a burst pipe, because at least you see it right away and can sort it. These slow ones are much worse. I had exactly the same thing in a previous house that I had just moved into, and it had gone unnoticed for ages. Fortunately, it was sorted very quickly.Ā Been a lovely day here, apart from a little bit of smirr this morning. My little juvenile chaffinch has been tootling around, getting to know the garden. It's a really sweet little thingĀ There's at least two youngsters, certainly one male and one female, and they've been around for a while now.Ā

Hey everyone. Just read back of the 48 posts since I looked last night. That ā3wordsā idea is amazing! I have some hilarious combinations in my location! I wonder why they picked 3M squares??Ā Had a mixed day - bit and of revising, bit of gardening, bit of HW. The sky is beautifully clear tonight, so looking forward to seeing the bright Harvest moon (officially tomorrow is full moon).Ā Have a smashing weekend all.Ā
This is should be the headline in every paper today... it is not (I checked). I hope you never experience sepsis. For those who have been through it, as a patient, relative or health care professional, you will already know the impact it has.Ā
