  • @BenCotto yes I think many of us have had near identical experiences, doesn't reduce the annoyance though.

I forget which delivery company it was but the 'safe place' they found was in the wheely bin. I found the parcel nestled in among the dog poo bags nice and safe :/

I went to Adsa earlier and they've cut down all the trees in the car park and filled the planters with fake bark chippings. It seems to be shredded rubber or something similar that is all glued together and spray painted brown. To be fair the trees were battered after cars had driven into them or over their roots and they don't get watered in droughts but I can't help but feel a better solution could have been found. If nothing else there's nowhere shady to park cars there if you have a dog.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

I read somewhere that about 50% of trees planted in urban areas die. Tarmac and tree roots just don't work together.

Our local Hermes chap is excellent, DPD are fine and the Royal Mail are always reliable. But Yodel - their idea of a safe place is under a hedge about a mile away. They then add a random neighbour's signature, presumably to try to improve community relations.

I've also had 3 parcels from UKMail where I've ended up with two of whatever it was because they've delivered it somewhere completely random, I've complained and been sent a replacement and a month or so later the original parcel has turned up (usually courtesy of our lovely posties) when someone a couple of miles away found it behind their shed/round the back of their porch/in the corner of the stables or barn (most neighbours are farms, here).

BT came round today. They think the 200yards of cable they replaced last week (closing the road for 3 days to do it) was the wrong bit. So they now need to replace another section. I need to borrow @Fairygirl 's wall

Some of this is good news... because hubby and I are ancient we qualify for free travel on trains and buses in Ireland.  Great stuff... this evening we filled in the forms, to be sent to Sligo with various proofs of identity (including birth certificates, and, strangely, our marriage certificate).  Ah... before we send the forms off we each need a Public Services card, for which we have to make an appointment at a government office in a local town.  Oh... and we have to have a MyGov ID account to get the appointment.  And to register for the MyGov ID account?  We need... a Public Services card...   :D
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

I have to say we get quite a few deliveries and we’ve not had any problems with any of the delivery companies ... so far 🤞

Am I the only person who sees " Hermes" and thinks of gorgeous silk scarves?

    'lol'  :D
@Liriodendron- I feel your pain. Why is everything strangled by red tape nowadays  :/

    I love @B3's joke  :D
Hermes are definitely the worst here. I took in a parcel the other day for a neighbour. On the card he put through her door, he'd written her number, not mine  :/

Karen calls my Hermes, Herpes, they’re about as good as.
I know it’s difficult in the country though, my son delivers parcels from St. Ives across to  Marazion, and all stops between,  he has a 70 miles journey before even getting started.
The drivers are under a great pressure in the country,  he uses tracks, bridleways,  any short cuts he can find to get the round done in a day.
