Morning all/afties Pat if you pop in  :)
Great news for you @Busy-Lizzie - on both fronts. Fingers crossed  :)
Lovely jubbly @chicky. I thought you would have had a lot of painted ladies in your garden. Maybe we've nicked them all... ;) Beautiful little things.
Cloudy and a few big clouds here, although the rain isn't meant to arrive till lunchtime. Not holding my breath for the washing that's out. If anyone wants some rain - we can happily send it. We have more than we could possibly need  ;)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

36 yrs of wedded bliss today (almost typed weeded) and what are we doing?  ironing mountain for OH, cleaning for me and much washing of doggy beds.  We're driving Bonzo to a clinic in La Rochelle this pm to have his cruciate ligament fixed.   We'll celebrate on Saturday when we have him back.

Hope your flight goes well @Busy-Lizzie and the visit on Monday too.   Any new cottage projects?

@Chicky and @Fairygirl - butterflies round here never stay still long enough for me to see what they are before they close up their wings.   Great to see them tho and they've finally found the very rich purple buddleia down by the ruin.   A wee cloud of them rises up every time I pass but all I see is a bit of brown and orange and they're gone.   There's a bright yellow one that flits around the gravel weeds and a few teeny blue ones and a tiger moth.  No cinnabars this year so far even tho I've left their caterpillar weed alone.

    Hi all
Warming up here, looks like we might get a few nice days. Certainly won't be going anywhere, as it's BH, so all the roads are jammed with tourists.

Hey everyone. Off today so baking - trying a new tray-bake tin with my favourite carrot cake recipe. If it looks ok then I will take it to the team meeting tomorrow. OH requested a chocolate one as well!
A warm Bank Hol weekend? How alternative!

The new 5 star reptile hotel is now open for business with 4 slow worms already checked in. To be fair they were involuntarily relocated as they came in on a pile of trimmings which I had stockpiled awaiting the new bins. They are only tiddlers though, the big ones are still in the dalek with the baby grass snake snuggled up between them.

We mainly have meadow brown, ringlet and holly blue butterflies, haven't seen a painted lady yet.

I haven’t tried that @Obelixx but that could work. Surely there’s no such thing as rubbish cake!

I've been making it for years.  At one stage it was the only way to get carrots into Possum cos she couldn't see them.  I'd make enough mix for the usual 10" square cake but then make individual buns for her to take to school for the morning snack at school.  It would make 30 or so and they freeze well.

    Evening.
Baking all done. The new baking tray is fab.
Forgot to say that my annual leave is in 9 days time. It kicks off with a ‘festival’ at my friend’s house - and this year I am doing a gin stall! I am taking herbs, flowers and sliced fruit etc to garnish the gin drinks. I have ‘tested’ my signature cocktail: apple juice, lemonade, gin with a cucumber, mint and lemon verbena garnish. Need a name for it now...
Hope you’ve all had a good day.

One of our more elderly neighbours, a delightful Scottish lady was in a bit of tizzy this afternoon, saying that a small dog she was looking after for a friend had got out the gate,  so I stopped gardening and offered to go look for it. OH went one way and I did another, we checked the Orchard and stream and walked right along the lane - not a dog in sight. When I eventually got back, another neighbour told me thankfully that the dog had been found - safely asleep under a radiator in the house!  We all had thought that might be the case but nobody liked to suggest she double checked first. We were happy to help anyway, she always stops to compliment me on my roses and wisteria.
