Strange @Hostafan1 ... it was quite some time before Ma could be cremated cos she died just before Easter and then there had to be an inquest ... didn’t cost any extra ... is someone exploiting the fact that she may not know how things are done here?
They've "shopped around" and nobody can do anything for 3  weeks.
When I lived in Scotland funerals were over and one with in about 3 days, down here it seems to take weeks. No idea why.

Supply and demand as always. In this case the issue is a lack of crematoria probably made worse by older ones being taken out of service as they don't/can't meet air quality standards. Depending on area there are also pressures from various religious groups wanting instant service which can build delays for those of other denominations or none.

You would think that it would be a good investment opportunity for someone as death never goes out of fashion.

We found the same when my uncle died @Hostafan1. It was going to be ages and the Christmas holidays didn't help. There was no issue with cause of death either, unlike Dove's situation. I think in the end, the wait was the best part of 4 weeks.
Nothing like that kind of wait up here. I think both my parents' funerals were within a week to ten days.
Very sad for the relations though  :/

On a more cheerful note I found buried treasure in the garden today! A 1949 Florin (2 bob or 10p depending on your age). I had been hoping for a Roman or Saxon hoard of gold but no such luck.

It's August.  Even when there are enough physical resources to deal with everything, people go on holiday.   Even funeral directors.

Our dog needs an op to fix his knee.  Has had to wait 4 weeks cos all the othopedic vets are on hols.  He goes in tomorrow for op on Friday.   Today I tried to get a chap to come and empty our septic tank - he and his staff are on hols and can only do emergencies so that'll be mid September before he gets to us.  In Belgium, it's not a good idea to have a house problem in July, from leaks in the roof to a dead dishwasher.  The entire building industry and all related skills have 3 weeks hols.

:) Ryanair say our flight should be OK tomorrow! Also there is a viewing on the house on Monday.

I've been very busy today, clearing up, washing, sweeping up leaves, cutting back the santolinas, checking fences and moving horses to a new paddock.

This time tomorrow I'll be in bed in Norfolk, hopefully, about half an hour from Dove.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

Good morning 😊 ... I expect you’re all asleep ... I’m wide awake at 5am!  I’ve been out in the garden in the moonlight 😊 now I have a decaf and have returned to bed with my book. I have to keep my cold feet to myself 😉

    Have a good trip @Busy-Lizzie ✈️
