I don't know whose rain we got yesterday... 66mm, apparently, in 24 hours. A bit too much of a good thing... my raspberries have suffered a bit of a battering! The rest of the garden is looking remarkably perky, though.
Domestic flooding in the town was mainly limited to basements this time. Residents with the benefit of experience keep anything in their basement on high shelves - and most definitely don't install shiny new kitchens in them... incomers sometimes cross their fingers and hope for the best.
All roads now open, trains running slowly through the section of track flooded last night. Not as bad as it might have been... we all hate the sound of the "maroon" flood siren though.
On balance, I think I'd rather have to contend with a hose, than flooding.
@Liriodendron - Our Weston village got flooded soon after we moved here because we are surrounded by hills and heavy rain just cascaded down our lane (we're fortunately up a hill) and eventually poured into the 'High Street' and flooded some shops. Nobody had remembered that after a similar event or events 20 years ago, a flood siren had been put in..........!! We still don't know where it is, whether it's still working and how to get it activated.
Hi folks, been a bit stressful over the past few days. On the up side spent the day with Jonah and Gabriel. Gabriel is much better, still a bit wheezy but on the mend . On the down side have to meet with moms Doctors tomorrow, doesn't sound like it's good news and I got stung by a wasp in the car on the way home. I really fancy a big bowl of ice-cream but I ate it all yesterday.
The under gardener is in fine form today. hile I was cooking I asked him to pour a tub of water, saved from running the tap to get hot water, over the big red fuchsia behind the steps leading down from the terrace.
I had to show him.
It's a magellanica so doesn't have big blousy skirts but really? He can't see the family resemblance.

Thanks for the hugs, Dove! It's been dry all day, but with the dehumidifier running full pelt it's now 72% humidity in the living room. Can't see any damp, but... I think some may have crept in under the floor...
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
Hope you dry out soon @Liriodendron ......what a nightmare 🙀
Glad Gabriel is home @Yviestevie, but a worry about your Mum ......will be thinking of you.
Niece’s wedding on Sunday was very special. They had gone to so much effort with personal touches, to make every guest feel special. And so many quirky ideas that I had never come across before - my niece is a very talented artist, and had drawn a “family tree” of all the engagement rings across the years, going back to her great grandmothers. The couple looked so happy and relaxed together ......so all in all a lovely celebration.
Waved Chicklet and her rucksack off to Thailand yesterday .....in fact she is still airborne now ✈️. Her last extended jaunt before she starts a “proper” job.

it’s a bright morning ... but the sky has a lot of those clouds you see in Constable paintings ... the ones that presage rain ...
