Just taking advantage of a brief spell of functioning internet to say hello. Not sure why it's working this morning when it hasn't all week, but gift horses and all that. If I was a cynical person - and, of course, I'm not - I might wonder about the coincidence that the internet was working for 3 hours this week before this morning, which was while the BT bloke was here to 'fix' it on Monday afternoon. He could find nothing wrong, as it worked fine for the whole hour he was here, so he left without doing anything. Next morning, not even the phone line was usable. And as it happens, BT are due this morning to 'fix' it again and gosh look at that, it's working fine again.
Anyhoo, @Hostafan1 , @Lyn we've had 3 days above 25C on this side of Devon, Tuesday was the hottest I think. Mad thunderstorm on Tuesday night and a bit of rain, but not enough to fill a water butt. Cooler today and the air is damp but no sign of rain. I may hang some washing out to see if I can prompt a downpour or two.
@B3 I was in central London on Wednesday, it was awful. I caught a bus from Waterloo to Victoria at about 2.30pm - couldn't face the underground in that heat - and it was like some form of torture. I got to my meeting looking absolutely puddled And then there was the train journey home. I'll not go into the gory details but it was not a pleasant experience. So glad the meeting wasn't yesterday, when it was even worse.
@punkdoc and Hosta, I can't watch the news at the moment. I'm normally quite interested in politics but it is so profoundly depressing, I'm having to stick my fingers in my ears and shout 'la la la la la not listening'. I did have a brief engineering outburst at the poor advice the Public Health bloke gave on the radio on how to keep your house cool, but no one was listening so I harrumphed and turned the radio off.
Better get some invoices out before the internet packs up again. I'm guessing I'll have most of the morning until BT man has been and gone before it drops out again.
Hope you all have a lovely weekend if i don't make it back on before then

Morning all/afties Pat. I'd rather have minus 5 than the 29 we had yesterday. No use for me at all. We didn't even get the thunderstorm to help clear it. Yours sounds brilliant Dove R'girl - I'm not cynical either, but I think you may be right about that t'interweb scenario. We had a similar situation at work once, when the phone company insisted it was everyone and everything else that was causing the problem, and then miraculously it all worked perfectly when they gave us new phone units. Hope you get it fixed properly soon. Good to see you @Steve the Gardening Vet. Hope the building work is going well. I'm not mentioning politics at all. I'm weary of all the constant negativity in this country.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
@Pat E - I saw on the news that Geraint has dropped back a bit, which is a pity. Forgot to mention the other day - sad that Rutger Hauer died. For anyone who loved Bladerunner, that final scene of his was extraordinary. He apparently improvised the line about tears in rain. So beautifully filmed too, a very special piece of film history. Reasonably cool and overcast, so I'm off for a walk before it gets too hot. Catch you all later. Have a good day - stay cool/warm as appropriate

I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
Yes they don't make films like that anymore. @Hostafan1 if you are cold come to London it was 39 outside & 34 in our kitchen at 5 pm yesterday. In spite of keeping curtains & windows shut on the south side it was like an oven in the bedroom last night it's still warm up there now. Watering the garden helped cool the outside a bit but not much. The storm helped a bit too.
It was a stunning piece of film then, and it still is now. No one ever seems to remember that Daryl Hannah was the 'other' replicant. Much has been made of his death being in 2019, when Blade Runner was set Have either of you seen the comedy series Porters, which he was in? Fairly recent, and tucked away on Channel 4 [?] and not really promoted. He wasn't in the 2nd series much, but made his mark. I really don't envy you, @Allotment Boy. Hope it's a bit fresher for you today. We have a good breeze, and a good bit of cloud, so it's far better today. Rain for the weekend.

Lovely to "see" you. I hope life is treating you both well.
