We had 7 once @biofreak. Strays and abandoned cats seemed to find us, cost us a fortune in vet's fees and then become the most loving and appreciative cats. That was in Harrow in the 80s.
No gardening here as it is sodden in sunshine and frozen in the shade. Our globe artichokes are already over a foot high and coping with frosts. The asparagus is hiding firmly underground but will get mulched once the frosts pass.

Lovely day hear but less than 5 miles away blanket fog Spent Tuesday & Wednesday at allotment , put some aluminium roof tiles on top of roofing felt one of my sheds then used sealant to finish off edges , it kept leaking
Cut the Jureslum artichoke edge down ready for burning , giving it the Chelsea chop last year definitely helped Harvested leeks , sprouts , infact so many sprouts have been giving them to neighbours ,curly kale 🥬 and last 2 cabbages 1 red & 1 green
Read with horror in Sunday Times this morning about new veg and fruit being bred and sold in supermarkets minus seeds plus sweeter..no need to peel and quicker to cook!! Is it just me or has the world gone completely mad. Don't like messing around with nature at the best of times. So much for our wonderful tasty heritage varieties that were supposed to be being pioneered by the shops again.
Personally I think that lots of people have lost the connection with growing food that you cook & eat Have you seen Monty Dons new Mediterranean Garden program , he was in Croatia 🇭🇷 and they still think land/gardening means growing food 🥔 Had a good day at allotment today Hope you are keeping well
Lovely weekend but 2/3c so too cold to do much especially on sodden ground. Looked back through gardening diaries, have had 'false' Springs for years now. Must make myself wait for better weather that lasts more than 3 days!! I agree with you Obelixx hunker down indoors at the moment apart from feeding birds etc. GWRS missed the programme and don't know how..will watch 'catch up'. Cats on high alert,. Some strays appearing from local farm..our gang 'not amused'!! Boots the Bengal back to mousing. One a day being triumphantly carried across the lawn at the moment. Apparently 70% of hedgehogs vanished in France but Wolves on the increase..1 seen locally the other day. They have arrived via the Italien border. Not restricted as French want them reintroduced..not sure all farmers agree.☹️ Popped my World gone mad comment on Potting Shed Thread.. surprised not many gardening comments, is this now a General Chat Thread thus joining Facebook etc? Don't mind, but somehow expected more constructive response.
Fifth foggy start to the day here but by midday we had some sunshine for the first time since Wednesday. Still very cold but no heavy frosts. Not a gardening day tho as I have the needlework/patch club on Mondays followed by mosaic and don't get home till 8:30pm.
The Potting Shed is for chats about any topic not covered by the other board categories and does not have to be garden related. Lots of people are not keen cooks and many also do not grow fruit and veggies so I can't see many people getting too excited about the prospect of easy to manage veg but losing the flavour and texture of old varieties.

@biofreak, I am finding the issue of false spring is wider every year. We are not getting a consistent cold period from November to February like we used to. It's often very mild then we get a few frosts then mild etc. I'm confused let alone the plants. I was going over some Acers yesterday, one on the patio has sap rising already. Luckily I had only cut a very thin twiggy branch, but it was a bit of a shock, to see sap this early in January. @GWRS can I ask you to post something on the Allotment thread. I normally have it on my bookmarks but I seem to have lost it. I have looked down the recent posts but can't find it, thanks.
Thanks for info Obelixx, I have to admit to being confused by responses as this is Gardeners World and I was not expecting a lesson on First Aid if you swallow a Cherry 🍅 Tomato etc.Think I shall stay clear of that Thread, although I suppose people need people to talk to about anything a sujet de COVID/Isolation etc. Allotment Boy, ...bought a little book about being a child in the 50's and it bought back memories of frost on the inside of our windows when we got up in the morning, as no central heating and rushing into the kitchen as only warm room in the house!! Lots of frost snow and ice and fog from November into March ... Always well wrapped up against the cold and winds. Does seem milder now, but we also seem to have later cold snaps around Easter, when it used to be mild enough to get the potatoes in with no risk of frost. I just think the seasons have shifted through evolution..not necessarily climate change. Saying that birds charging around this am, searching out females...lots of fighting!! Wild 🍒 Cherries coming into bud which pleases the Bullfinches. Too cold and dark to do Farmers Market this morning 6am...most of us switch to once a fortnight Jan/Feb..clients don't come out until 11am..More sense than us!!
Sorry @biofreak but seasons are entirely dependent on the movement of air and water currents in the atmosphere and oceans and they are all being affected by climate change - unusual jet stream manoeuvres and warmer currents coming north and the danger of the Gulf Stream being sunk below melting Arctic ice are really very worrying.
