Our raspberries were poor but we did just dig up a load form an old bed in the middle of the plot and re-plant them with plenty of compost and some manure.   They romped away - too rampant in fact - but the flavour was poor and the fruits not plentiful so we're taking them all up soon and trying something else.

Butternut squash are ripe when their skin turns a pale tan colour with no green on it, the stalk at the neck starts to brown and wither and the skin is hard enough not to pierce with your thumbnail.   I wouldn't expect that to be before September.  We have butternuts, a small version of Crown prince, spaghetti squash and Utchiki Kuri.   Quite a bit of mildew on leaves now so I'm removing those to let the sun in to help with ripening.

Tomatoes and chillies finally starting to ripen in the polytunnel.   Yellow courgettes still doing well and the brassicas planted earlier on are looking good under their insect netting which also keeps the chooks off but salads are bolting.

I agree I would give the raspberries another year.  Too much manure will result in soft leafy growth and poor fruit.  If you have any wood Ash I would spread that next month or so and leave. Next year they should be better.

    Hi Everyone
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but September Lunar Weather prédiction is wet and windy with storms coming up from the Méditerranéan 21-23rd. There is a risk of alot of rain between 10th and 13th with colder period forecast for end of Month. We had a wonderful week-end at the Garden Fair. Resisted buying   anything though as alot of pot bound plants and prices far too high. This week-end we shall be at smaller Fair with local nurseries keen to sell off stocks. Using my téléphone today to write this ..sorry about French keyboard! Still freezing Runner Beans and late mangetouts are up. Between now and 4th Sept harvest and dry flowers/herbs and Beans. Pop in some Cabbage plants and sow Winter Salad leaves. Finish lifting early potatoes to avoid them resprouting.
Hope internet back by end of week.
    Happy Gardening!

I've just checked our local forecast and we have heavy rain and thunder storms forecast for the 7th, 10th and 11th.  Fine by me but the chooks won't like it as the polytunnel will still be full of tomatoes and out of bounds.

Always jobs to do at allotment , pruned pear trees yesterday , amazed at the amount of growth , will still need to winter prune them
Currently having a new Insulated roof fitted on side conservatory , fortunately it’s been dry , no rain forecast until next week when it’s all finished, very lucky

So the Lunar prediction could well be correct! I find it very uncanny particularly when you know that the Calender was printed November 2020. High wind here today. Smoking Plum Streudels for Garden Fair and Rhubarb and Strawberry Cookies. Using up last of Rhubarb..
