Birds dining in style on old apple cores and peelings I had stashed away in freezer for them. 14 blue tits/4 great tits/11 tree sparrows/1 Mistlethrush/4 Blackbirds and 1 Starling on last count lunchtime. Oh.. 1 Robin in the back garden and 2 in the front.😊

Just filled out acceptance of invite to participate at 1st realistically dated (With Covid hopefully on the wane) Garden Fair 8/9th May at Evreux and sent it off. Daren't risk booking the March ones as just can't see them happening. Planning new recipes already plus Cordials this year in addition to marmalades. Looking forward to delivery of 50Kgs Seville Oranges in the next few days. Then I shall have my work cut out!!Nice to see the nights drawing out a little.
Anyway, here is the Lunar Calender combined with the Biodynamic Calender for 9-18th January.
9/10th Jan - Actually 9th which is a Flower Day not much use as changes over to Leaf Day at 3.35pm and no gardening recommended after 10.30am as Moon perigée! Moon descending in Scorpio so Leaf Day on 10th but no gardening recommended after 3.10pm as Noeud Descending. If you were going to do a little in between these hours Prepare your soil for your next or new Asparagus Bed. If you have room plant out some Lettuces & Chicory plants but triple cover with fleece over cloches. Clear away old Salad crops and rake debris to one side for birds to sift through.
11/12/13th Jan- Moon tipping over from Descending to Ascending 8.16am on the 11th but in Sagittarius so Fruit Days. Sow some round as opposed to wrinkled Peas and Mangetout in sheltered but sunny patch andf fleece. Prune Fruit Trees and Hedges outside frost pockets and plant Bare Root Fruit Trees once again if no frost. (OK I know some of you have snow and horrors at the moment but this a guide for milder and lowland regions-Also don't forget Weather prediction said milder weather coming after 12th so still a good idea to visit Nursery and buy stock before it is snapped up)
14/15th Jan - Moon Ascending in Capricorn so Root Days. Under cover sow some Leeks for harvest June/July. Plant Garlic on mounds for better drainage and to accelerate heating of soil and avoid disease.
16/17th Jan - Moon Ascending in Aquarius so Flower Days. Sow some Begonia (semperflorens) & Pelergoniums (as opposed to geraniums) under heat remembering not to cover the begonia seed as they need maximum light to germinate. Sow some Cauliflowers too under heat ready to prick out in February.
I am still wading through pages of Biodynamic Book, filtering out the items not associated with gardening that will be of little interest, but I have ordered some Preperations for Decoctions etc that I cannot make myself, and I shall write this all up here as soon as I can get my head round it!!!! Bear with me please.
Have a lovely weekend. Stay Safe. Stay Warm and above all Happy Gardening!
No Seville oranges here either but I do have tins of prepped oranges for when I need some more. Still working through a batch I made with ordinary oranges and Pomelos which I use mostly for bread and butter pudding with brioche rather than stale bread.
We've had brilliant sunshine here all day - so good after days of gloom and mire and fog - but it's absolutely freezing so no gardening at all and none till it warms up a bit. On the other hand the garlic under the netting looks like it's growing well now and the later planted garlic and shallots are finally showing. We even have most of the broad beans I sowed showing shoots now.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

Hi, I agree Obelixx brioche brilliant for b & b pudding😊 Froze at Farmer's Market this am. Very tempted to buy Sanguine Peach tree (The red peaches are used to make wonderful jam, but left longer become lovely and sweet..Does not suffer from peach leaf curl either) My last one was too big to move house. felt sorry for frosted lettuce plants for sale, but people were buying them!! Same nursery man at Tuesday's market so I shall do some humming and hahing over the w/e. He is asking 35euros but it is 3yrs old and I have bought fruit trees from him before with success. Also potted not bare root which makes a big difference to price.
Hi everyone Normally there is so much to do towards the end of January. Whether it is finishing cleaning tools/greenhouses/cloches or polytunnels or starting off seeds and planting garlic/onion sets & shallots. It has just been too wet/windy or snowy to do anything productive. How have you filled the last few days? ...I have been working on an article for you making the understanding of biodynamique Gardening simpler for us all, and have been delighted to see that the UK Biodynamic Association are going to put some Video Conferences up on the Internet to members end Jan and during Feb, so I am looking forward to watching these. The French BD Assoc (MABD) offer free video tutorials to members, so I hope to learn more there as well. So I shall start putting info on here as from next week. The first article applying to the association of plants to the Cosmos and key dates for sowing/planting and harvesting. Bear with me.. it's not easy!!!! Here is the Lunar Calender until the end of the month. 21/22 Jan..Moon ascending in Aries so Fruit & Seed Days. No Gardening recommended after 8.05am as Moon apogee on 21st. On 22nd sow Round as opposed to Wrinkled Peas/Mangetouts and Broad Beans. 23/24/25 Jan.. Moon ascending in Taurus so Earth & Root Days. Sow some Radish and early Carrots where they are to be harvested. Under cover sow some Turnips. No gardening recommended after 4.40pm on 24th. Noeud ascending. 26/27 Jan..Full Moon 7.16pm on 26th Flower Days If it is not frosty spread and fork in compost on new plot that you are making ready for Artichokes. Plant Bare Root Roses and Climbers. Start off Begonia and Cannas under heat in pots. temp here to be kept between 15/20c. 28th Jan..Moon Descending in Cancer so Stem & Leaf Day. Prepare you future Asparagus Bed. Plant out Leafy as opposed to Flowering Shrubs. cut Hazel for Pea and Bean Sticks and Obelisks for flowering Climbers. 29/30/31 Jan... Fruit Days If it is not freezing prune apples and pears and brush Lichen and Moss of Trunks to dislodge unwanted insects and harmful fungus. (In Biodynamic s this is not recommended as you are disturbing microorganisms that form part of biodiversity)..I must admit I don't do it because I though Lichen and Moss were a sign of good air with no pollution. What's your take on this?? Take cuttings from Currants and prune fruit bushes. Well that takes us to a much wanted end of month. I think we shall all be glad to get January behind us with this dreadful weather. Not sure Lunar Weather Report accurate at all the is time!!!

It's so interesting as I have only this week had 10 pkts of New variety of flower seeds to grow this year, one being Begonia so I will start off next week!. Only today we are doing a calender of our own on what to start and when, just to keep track and going to order another Electric Propagator on-line. Will look forward to your next instalment.
Bio , thanks for update , hoping to prune pear 🍐 trees at allotment at end of month
Agree leave moss & Lichen , definitely a sign of clean air I have an apple tree at home and I’ve let Ivy grow up the trunk but cut it off the branches Pleased to say we have some sunny but cold weather at the moment , after a lot of rain , stream at side of garden a raging torrent
