Hello all , the resent comments made me look at when we started, October 2012
So 10 years seems to have flown by , still learning but importantly still enjoying , particularly over the last couple years with lockdowns
Hoping to go to plot tomorrow

Had some exciting news! Been thinking of having an allotment for years, but only applied last year after some careful thought and knowing I can make the commitment to it. The one I applied for is 5 mins walk away but only 12 plots on site and I'm currently 31st on the list 😐 so I applied for alloments a little further away, 19 plots in site... I'm 89th on that list 😭 so last week i applied for allotments a short car journey away, 42 plots on site, and it's just come back that I'm only 30th on the list 😁 this means I might actually get an allotment in the next few years, I know it'll be hard work but i'm actually a bit giddy at the prospect of having proper room to grow my veggies in the next decade 😂

Did you get to your plot @GWRS
Hope it was in one piece after these strong winds.
I had the tied down door of my closhe ripped off, and the neighbour lost some felting tiles from their shed.

@purplerallim , went to allotment yesterday morning still a bit windy but pleased and surprised to say everything was ok . A bit more pruning , cleaned up a bed and put some shredded conifer on paths , plan to go there tomorrow to do some more pruning
  • @hatty123, I don't want to get you too exited, but especially on the larger sites, you might be surprised at how quickly things could change.  We find on our site, there is not much change for a few years, but then suddenly 2 or 3 plots come up at once. Then when we start contacting people on the list a lot of them drop out, so you might come up the list quicker than you think.  Another way, is to volunteer to help someone already on the site, people are very reluctant to give up plots even when they are finding it difficult to manage,  helping someone like that,  can get you known on the site, this can help.
    AB Still learning

Good day at allotment , covered a small bed with horse manure and some around rhubarb
3 barrow loads of conifer shredding on paths
    Burnt a load of pruning’s
Pruned eating apple tree , still more pruning needed of fruit bushes
A few fence posts gone , more work !

Hatty don't let the'allotment list put you off  There are 80 plots here and the list is long but as others have said often people put their names down on a few lists and get plots elsewhere .

On the day I got my plot there were 30 on the list most didn't turn up for the open day and those that did could  put in an interest for the plot they wanted,  those higher up got priority. As I was low on the list and keen I opted for what resembled a jungle and have not looked back  ..😁

Well I'm still a home allotment man, I've increased the bed areas over the winter gaining another 6m2.

I have some good strong elephant garlic coming through which is my only new season veg so far, broad beans are ready to plant out.

I have plenty of leaks to go, parsnips are all dug up, the cabbages and kale are coming on nicely in the greenhouse.

After my 1st proper season last year I've tweaked my plant choices beetroots, chard and lettuce hearts are going. I'm growing sweetcorn, more annual herbs, more potatoes, sweet peppers.

Wilderbeast I'v never had any luck growing elephant garlic

Have you tried mini pop. It grows as tall as sweet corn but doesn't need to be polinated so can be grown in squares or rows and you can pic and eat straight from the plant if you wanted
