Spent yesterday morning and this morning digging over the potato beds I don't like to leave the ground undug as I got caught out the other year waiting until autumn/winter to do the digging and then it didn't stop raining for six months. Still harvesting tomatoes from the greenhouse, outdoor cucumbers and courgettes, first few autumn raspberries, first sweetcorn not quite ready at the moment, going to prune the apple trees tomorrow.
  • Harvested a few runners yesterday - Made a soup cucumber
today nice apple pie as apples were bit tart better cooked
Few people about little windy and someones bonfire smell kept coming our way not so nice

  • No bonfires on our site until October to the end of March but I don't partake myself, picked sweetcorn yesterday and today, had a couple of bowls of delicious home made tomato soup the other day and on Sunday we had an absolutely scrumptious home made apple and blackberry pie made from windfall apples and wild berries from the back of the plot, it's this time of the year when all of the allotment work pays dividends.

On Monday burnt all last weeks pruning in fire dustbin
yesterday pruned roses & 2 pear trees , didn’t think they had any fruit but found 1 pear on one tree & 3 on another
Cant remember the pear trees having so much growth , will still need a winter prune
Cut down globe artichokes and a bit of weeding
    Blueberries finished and blackberries almost
keep picking a few autumn raspberries , round courgettes , toms , beetroot and carrots, still loads of French beans
O/H made apple & blackberry crumble this week , going to make a courgettes cake today
Definitely feels like Autumn 🍂 , happy gardening everybody
  • Definitely feels like Autumn now but we need some late sun if my melons are going to ripen, I thought that the late spring would surely be compensated by Summer continuing into Autumn.
  • It looks like it will be warmer next week 🤞

  • Apparently this low cloud is due to high air pressure I always thought that high pressure meant clear weather.
  • Fellow allotmenteers, can I ask if any of you have any little ponds on your plot? I have quite a big plastic pot that has no drainage holes and I'm considering burying it in the ornamental part of my plot for the benefit of the resident frog and any of his mates. Good idea or shall I think again?

  • I sunk a sink at the top of my plot and although I have found baby toads at the bottom of the plot under ground cover sheets I haven't seen any around the sunk sink but I can't see how it can do any harm to have a pond/bucket on the plot.
  • Thank you, that was my exact reasoning. Especially when this pot has no other use and will be deep enough to plant it later on. Will make sure to add rocks and a little ladder/stick to make it safe for any small creatures. It's always nice to see this frog when weeding and frankly he's welcome to anything he can catch! Clearly haven't cut down too much to drive him away.
