  • It’s even an odd year for my courgettes and squashes. Started them off in pots but had to hold off planting them out due to the bad weather. They were growing well and flowering when planted out about a month ago. I got one perfect courgette but NO flowers since, and one squash that seems to of stalled growing at golf ball size and again NO flowers since. Normally I get loads of fruits but this year they seem to beholding back, the plants look ok, just not doing much since planted out 4 weeks ago. Very odd.
  • I have been to the plot at lunch time, shut the chooks in the run (1 of our hens is broody, so have to kick then out of the coop (into the covered run) for a few hours a day), planted out our Sunflowers (Evening Sun) & Peas (Oregon Sugar Pod) that have been long awaiting being planted out, going down tonight to left the chooks back in and possibly plant out the brassicas and sweet potatoes

also trying to think about that I can do about the pests getting in my polytunnel & greenhouse and stripping anything we pout in the ground (including a tomato plant), lol

More hoeing and harvesting today. Picked cherries,  strawberries,  loganberry,  peas, mangetout,  cabbage and a few more spuds.

Pulled up the spinach which had gone to seed. Sowed more carrots, a row of turnips and spinach. Picking mangetout is a constant job, it's not buckets but a large bowl a day at the moment. I have more flowers coming out on the aubergine plants so hopefully plenty of fruits.

I do wish you luck with the Aubergine @Wilderbeast I had two a couple of years ago, flowered beautifully all summer long, never got a fruit.🙄

@purplerallim I've found 3 fruits forming this morning, maybe if I sit and whisper sweet nothings to them it'll all be good 😜

Just done a taste test of the cucumbers and carrots I pulled today.

From last year Pasandra and new this year Beth Alpha both mini cucumbers. Pasandra slightly thicker skin and a really good cucumber taste. Beth Alpha milder in flavour and thinner skinned. Hubby likes cucumbers more than me and liked Pasandra better, I preferred Beth.

With the carrots the Nantes, new this year, were not as crunchy or sweet as Speedo,  so preferred the latter.
