Hope the nice weather lasts over the Easter weekend. It has been perfect here.

Thought I would come join the Allotment gardening thread, because I just got in my first earlies (Swift), so all systems go now for me on the veg front.

    Hi, Gemma,
I'm growing spuds at home in bags this year, along with some veg, herbs and fruit just in case we are restricted further.

Was on the plot today, , started putting up growing frames for peas and beans, and did some potting up.

Thanks for the welcome, @GWRS and @Zoomer44

Started out the day putting in raspberry canes, sun was getting really quite hot by lunch time.

This afternoon six rows of second earlies (Maris Peer) went in, fortunately by then we had a bit of an onshore breeze cooling things down. Hoping to get the main crop tatties in tomorrow.

Main crop (Maris Piper) now in. That's all the tatties done. Still preparing beds for parsnips, carrots, beans etc. Tomorrow hoping to set-up our propagator in the garage. I don't have a greenhouse and it can get very hot in the potting shed at this time of year, so aiming on raising my pot grown veg in the garage for the first time. Light will come from a bank of natural daylight tubes.

I finished off preparing the first bed on our plot yesterday and we planted Maris Piper potatoes in it today.

It was a major job, especially with the heat we had yesterday. Area hadn’t been used in years. Pulled out my own weight in Mare’s tail roots and twice again in lumps of bricks all cemented together!

The hot bed using straw bales doesn't seem to be happening, I've been to the plot everyday to water in chicken manure but the straw doesn't seem to be generating any excessive heat I might just need to start planting in plants.

Continued making bean/pea support. I'm growing early pea's, mangetout, maincrop and a couple of varieties of runner beans this year. Broad beans are ready to be planted out, good  weather is forecast for tomorrow so was planning to start planting out

Your site sounds challenging Mr Vine Eye. Can you recycle the bricks and use them to make paths?

Let us know how you go raising plants in the garage Gemma, I use the GH and when it gets to hot in there, transfer seedling into one of those small plastic shelved GH, as it's cooler and works well as a half place before planting out.
