  • @Wilderbeast I would love to have the space to grow veg at home. The only thing I would miss would be some of the camaraderie,  but I wouldn't miss the politics though.

@Allotment Boy I'm lucky to have the room here, mind we are right out in the sticks and lose out in other ways.

@Zoomer44 my elephant garlic went in much earlier this time and has had a much kinder winter so far so looking good. I'm not a fan of baby sweet corn 🌽, I'm trying swift in a big block after early beans

A few hours at plot this morning
Dug up rest of leeks , which have been very small this year , covered bed with horse manure
Pruned cooking apple tree & jostaberry  bush , more bits to burn
Need to prune currant bushes next

  • Cut back whispy bits from the flamenco willow, reduced the field maple, the odd bit of apple tree, a couple of bits of whisteria trying to escape over the fence, and the dead leaves from the strawberries. Two patio roses needed cutting, and cut down the Raspberries.  Enough for today.

Wet and windy here so nothing done on plot.
  • Visited the plot last Monday, we get free bark chippings so as there was a pile of fir tree chippings I transported a couple of bin loads (ex council wheelie bin) the 50 or so yards to my plot and spread it out good and thick around the gooseberry bush and over the Autumn raspberry bed, hopefully that will keep the weeds down and the moisture in this summer. Today I had a walk up there to harvest a bag of curly kale and a couple of leeks for Sunday lunch, the leeks were small too @GWRS although I never seem to get them to grow big but I'll keep trying, maybe more Nitrogen this year.

@barry island , I assume the fir 🌲 chipping don’t affect the Gooseberrys bushes ?
Was hoping to go to plot today but very strong winds  & rain 🌧

  • I think that all fruit prefer a slightly acid soil I know that raspberries do.
