I haven't watched it yet, but it sounds like l didn't miss much. However, l will have a look through later. I have been watching short excerpts from the A-Z of TV Gardening in the afternoons. That programme itself is a few years old, but they have clips going right back to at least the early 2000s. I was fascinated by a young Chris Beardshaw talking about rhododendrons yesterday. Beechgrove had a feature this week going back to 2014 . There must be some older stuff lurking in the GW archives ?
Maybe Monty had something else to deal with for the week they filmed the TV programme and there was too little time to repatriate to somewhere else or find another presenter to step in who was otherwise busy (it is August). I've never seen a TV programme with so many flashbacks but I'm sure there would be a reason to keep the links to a minimum so all the filming could be done in one day. Having watched how many times they record and re-record one or two-minute pieces at Chelsea means that even a 5-minute slot in a programme would take up to an hour, and that doesn't include all the camera set up and then editing. I suppose if you don't like it, there is always YouTube. You can get all sorts on there.
I have a feeling Arthur's bit and the one by the lady on the houseboat last week are, in fact, trials to see if they could be presenters. I remember many years ago they did a similar thing with a handful of different people and Rachel de Thame was successful. If this is what is happening I would like the lady with thalidomide to get the gig, if she were prepared to give up her current job as a sports physio. She is hugely engaging, knows her plants, has an eye for design and is a natural in front of the camera. She would bring something fresh to the party.
We really need a beechgrove.com. Maybe if there was a Beechgrove magazine.
Beechgrove has a lot of english accents which makes it UK-centric. Gardener's World is pretty much 100% english.
You must be watching a different version. Chris Beardshaw is the only presenter who is English, and he isn't even on that often. I think Carol can count as Scottish now as she's been here long enough. We've eventually accepted her [grudgingly] as a token Scot
Beechgrove had an email newsletter which you can subscribe to. Don't think it's available just now, because of the current situation
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
I think the lady on the houseboat would be perfect so long as the job spec is along the lines of ‘Presenter wanted. Ability to squeeze an excess of vacuous phrases into a five minute slot essential.’ That would be incredibly important.

I'm not too sure that's the case...could be I guess but personally I don't think so. But having said that, I'd certainly like to see more of Charles Dowding on GW or Beechgrove. And Toby Buckland who I actually didn't take to during his original stint on GW but has sort of grown on me since. He could replace Joe Swift...who is just plain annoying - IMO of course. I'm reading a book by Gay Search ATM, anybody remember her?

Crikey, I hope not. For me they were two of the dullest sections in a long time (beaten only by the gooseberry chap's bit that was repeated this week).
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
