I enjoyed it as well, loved seeing Breezy Knees. I have a photo of OH peering out from the giant welly boots. The article about creatures in the lawn etc. was interesting and l even enjoyed the bit about the compost 😳. I did wonder if Mrs Don realised where all her mixing bowls had disappeared to. The only thing l wasn't too keen on was the headless figure in that lady's garden. It really creeped me out every time they showed it.
The headless mannequin woman was trying so hard to be quirky it hurt. Was fairly bored by Monty but it was fine otherwise. Mind you, calling a garden Breezy Knees is horrible in a very upper middle class way.
I found the scientist Mr Clutterbuck (marvellous Dickensian name), really interesting and it was fascinating to see the mini beasts doing their magic. I didn't care for the statues in the big flower garden or the garden of the red haired woman and what appeared to be fake grass on steps. Yuck, but it's JMO 🙄
I always enjoy Carol's sections and the monarda were lovely.
Trying so hard to be quirky sums it up nicely but she seemed like a lovely person and it was obvious her garden brought her contentment so long may that continue. My wife has had cancer six times but always says depression was worse than any of them.
Once again viewers’ gardens were a mixed bag: most I approved of but one did look a mess. But, as always, their garden, their rules.
Overall I’d say the episode was pretty enjoyable - 7/10.
I liked most of it. The headless statue and artificial grass weren't my cup of tea but each to their own. Breezy Knees looked fab, and it's fairly near us so I must go and visit sometime. Maybe I can squeeze in a day out in the next couple of weeks.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
I liked it too, especially the Breezy Knees garden, didn't like the headless man either but the owner clearly loved her garden and that is all that matters after all. Thought Monty's compost making Masterclass really good but unrealistic for most of us and the soil scientist's bit was fascinating. All in all I'd say 8/10.
I doubt the creators of Breezy Knees are "upper middle class", @amancalledgeorge - just enthusiastic and amazingly hard-working northern folk (did you listen to his accent?) with a sense of humour different from yours...
Incidentally, for anyone interested in rabbit-resistant plants, they have a long approach path to the garden planted with shrubs and perennials, which they've found by trial and error to be unappealing to the multitude of visiting rabbits. The gardens themselves are very securely fenced against them. I went there with DIL and our young grandson last year, and think it's definitely worth a visit if you're in the York area.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
