I have no trouble keeping up with this thread or any thread by @Marlorena, beautiful pictures and such knowledge!  I like it when I’ve been away for a few hours and have lots of lovely posts to read when I return.

I keep thinking of places places where I could put more roses.

I have planted Astrantias and geraniums around my Scepter’d Isle and a verbena bonarensis at the back.  Not one rose bud to be seen yet though but it is nearly 3 foot high.

Done some shopping! The Cambridge is quite large already and has sections coming from multiple places in the potting soil - can I divide this up before planting - is it the right time to do it? It has lots of buds on at the moment some looking very close to opening.

My son likes the little blue flowers on the brunnera.  :)

@Mr. Vine Eye    ..those look nice... just plant the geranium, as it is, and wait until after flowering, by which time it will have increased considerably and you can just pull pieces off.. I reckon I could get maybe 6 off that later on, just stick them in the soil, water in, and before you know it, you'll have extra plants growing away.. these Geraniums are just the easiest thing ever.. your son could do it.. I can see he's itching to get started !...

@Hazyb .. thanks so much... and for looking in here.. glad you're finding it useful...

@TinyGardenGIrl .. this is a wonderful rose.. all single roses are good for pollinators, and this one is exceptionally floriferous..

I'm expecting heavy rain tomorrow.. must be the first for about 2 months.. all I've had is spits and spots..

No new blooms out today... here are a few more of my companion plants...

..this French Lavender stoechas 'Helmsdale' I grow in pots.. I do nothing to them, don't feed, and leave out all winter.. I think they make a good patio plant for early summer..

..if you like tall spires of the deepest of deep blue, then Anchusa 'Loddon Royalist' should be considered,,.. it looks great with pink and white roses..  I've also got a paler version called 'Opal'..   these should flower end of this month.. 4 foot or so...

I grow Geranium 'Rozanne' in pots, because it's rampant in the ground and spreads too much..  I repot and root prune each year.. I like this with 'Ballerina' rose..

Cistus 'Thrive'... I regard this as an essential small shrub to grow with roses of all sorts.. it flowers all summer, even into winter.. I just shear off old blooms and it's soon blooming again... easy to strike from cuttings, as they are quite expensive to buy from Wyevale..

David Austin roses must have been rubbing their hands together,... seeing £££ as soon as they clasped eyes on the first seedlings of this rose... I suspect it's been a real money spinner for them ever since.. and deservedly so... thorny, but it won't take over  your garden..

'Munstead Wood'.. finally opened today.. it's been so cool..

Oh my, this thread is wonderful! Would I be able to hijack it as a direct line to @Marlorena to ask what rambler/climber you would grow here?:

My current thinking is Lady of the Lake or Phyllis Bide but I could do with some expert guidance! From this thread I get the the impression that LoTL is a bit slow growing? My side faces North East but obviously gets the south facing sun through the trellis. I’ll continue to watch this thread ideas...

That is beautiful Marlorena! When I visit DA website I always return to look at this rose and would like it in my garden but then shy away from it as I try to think of planting companions to do it justice. I have a couple of roses in large pots and the others are planted in a mixed mainly perennial border with the odd small shrub. What plants have others who have this rose placed with MW?
Life's tragedy is that we get old too soon and wise too late.

@Lastboat   nice piece of trellis... is that your garden on the other side of it too?..

Either of your choices would be interesting.. I don't know Lady of the Lake as it's fairly new.. I'll show a photo of Phyllis Bide shortly.. it has a good scent and repeats well, and if you would be happy with the yellow and pink combination... each bloom is quite small..

I think I would put 'Mme. Alfred Carriere' on that myself though.. it's surrounded by lots of green and brown, and I'd want something very bright, almost white, and scented... something that really stands out.. with charm and grace, and if that other side does belong to you, then to drape down over there as well.. not many thorns either..

    'Phyllis Bide' at Mannington, Norfolk..

..happy choosing your rose... whichever one you choose I'm sure you'll be happy with..
I would also put a good word in for 'Kathleen Harrop'... it's thornless and the light pink blooms are scented and it blooms all summer... vigorous without taking over your garden completely..

    @Bright star   thank you..
I grow it with all sorts of things but I think the addition of a bit of white enhances it..
