Do you have a shopping list for bare root season Marlorena, or do you buy all year round?

Love your ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’!

Coincidentally, I have just been looking at Midnight Blue and other purple/burgundy roses on the Weeks Roses website, especially those bred by Tom Carruth (because I am so impressed with Julia Child, even in yr 1). Such a shame about that horrible muddy fade...

I hope you don’t mind me interrupting your flow, but this is what I was looking at - note the search criteria, its a hot and humid 34degC here today! Ignoring Neptune (too pale) do you know of any of these fade horribly, esp. in the sun? Don’t mind if they pale or even fade to pink so much, its for my cottage garden where pinks and purples mix freely...

@Nollie …. I would say you wouldn't go wrong with Burgundy Iceberg.. it grows well in hot and dry southern California... and is recommended for there.. so should be alright where you are...  some shade would be necessary for all the others, especially Ebb Tide which can fry in strong sun, but is great in the early part of the season..

Most purple roses need some degree of afternoon shade...  they are usually the worst for hot full sun positions... but as I say 'BI'.. would be the best of those from what I gather..  I have it here, it's just coming into flower now...

If you want to try the other ones... Ebb Tide, Night Owl and Twilight Zone probably have the best reputations, given a bit of shade Nollie...

@Victoria Sponge … oh I buy all year round... potted in summer.. just depends what I'm looking for... I also pick up some cheaper ones locally in pots... what I don't like doing is finding a rose is unavailable in May [sold out] and then having to wait until bare root season in Autumn... I don't like ordering that far in advance as I may change my mind in the interim... when I want something I'm one of those people who want it now, not in 6 months time... so I do tend to get whatever is available at the time I want it..

Patience is a virtue isn't it VS?... wish I had some...

It is a virtue😁 I know I am fickle, I just have to wait a while and I've changed my mind.  I always think it must have not been the right decision in the first place!

I'm going to try and order earlier this year as last year I waited so long some of my list had sold out.

Fantastic, thanks for the recommendations, Marlorena. My cottage garden faces east so gets afternoon shade. This year I planted a white climbing Iceberg, and whilst it was a slow starter compared to some, now its got going I’m impressed with the bloom power, so maybe the burgundy version is a good idea... and will definitely consider your other recommendations too.
