  • Looks nice and healthy too, thanks for posting the photo. I will muse on best place and replanting.

  • Yes, I've found a new space for it at the edge of my pond which I've recently cleared of blackthorn. It's full sun but not near a path but hopefully the scent will be sufficiently wafty. I'm replanting the area with a new rose, Ness, also William Lobb, if I can move it successfully and some full sun perennials, shastas, herbaceous potentilla, hollyhock and globe thistles. It looks great in my head😉 Thanks @purplerallim

I am doing fantasy rose shopping, it being a too early for bare-root orders, but I am slightly confused about whether Burgundy Iceberg and Burgundy Ice are the same rose.

@Marlorena, helpmefind seems to think they are the same, but are there different strains? Do you know if the one on TCL is the one I should be getting, as per your recommendation of this rose as likely suitable for my climate?

@Nollie ... yes it's the same rose...  I know it enjoys a hot climate but as a disclaimer, I cannot say about the humidity you get... you will have to take a chance on that one...

Great, thanks, M - don’t worry I won’t hold you to it! Everything is an experiment here, as you say.

  • I ment to take a photo of now to show you @Victoria Sponge . It has grown again to the same size as before its first flowers were cut, but as you see it doesn't spread sideways much.

Have left the hips on the Celebration , I don't normally, but they are so big I was wondering what colour they will turn.
Btw the standard "Rood" is now thriving after its trauma ( being knocked over by strong winds earlier this year) after being righted and a serious cut back it's now having a second flush of flowers, unusual for it.
  • That bed looks grand @purplerallim, lots of late colour. I'd forgotten it was your standard that had been knocked about, looks good now though with the new stake👍

I have a question regarding companion plants. I know some people here grow anthemis 'EC Buxton' with roses. How high does your anthemis grow? Some sites describe it as 40 or 45cm, some as much as 60. 40cm would be ideal for me, 60cm would be too much.

If it is too high, can you give me some ideas for alternatives? I would like something in the 40-45cm range (slightly smaller is OK too), daisy-like flowers, lemon/cream/banana colour would be ideal but white and yellow is also fine (ideally I don't want too much yellow or orangy yellow). Mound forming habit ideally with flowers above the mound of foliage, easy to grow and long-flowering in summer.
    My ideas are:
    - Anthemis punctata cupaniana - maybe too small? Acceptable but not ideal colour.
    - Coreopsis 'Moonbeam' - perfect colour and size but I am not sure how long would it flower without deadheading (which I am not going to do for a plant like this).
    - Leucanthemum superbum 'Banana Cream' - not ideal growing habit and maybe almost the same size as anthemis 'EC Buxton'.
    - Some dwarf leucanthemum, maybe 'Snow Lady'.
