    That’s a good one @Marlorena

I have a question about flushes. My roses are pretty much entering into their first full flush. How long does an average flush last?? The reason I ask is that we have a big event here on 8th June and sod’s law means all the roses will be ‘between flushes’ and not looking particularly blooming...

Is there any way I can encourage them to be in bloom on the day? Either by keeping the current flush going (some tomato food?) or maybe pruning off current blooms in the hope of them reflowering in three weeks time?

I suspect I may have left it too late to try and manipulate them in any way, if indeed this is possible!

Can anyone recommend some back of the border largeish shrub roses for a full sun east facing bed?

I'm not sure if this qualifies for this thread, but it was so nice this morning to see the very first bloom from the dog rose (Rosa Canina) in the mixed native hedge that we planted in Feb of last year. There are countless bud-covered sprays of this throughout the hedge, so I am looking forward to a great - if fleeting - display. I love these simple rose forms, and this colour:

Crikey, so many posts since I looked on here! We've been in OH's Norfolk cottage for 3 weeks and now I'm back in France I've taken some photos. The roses aren't in full flower yet, so portrait photos.

Boule de neige is unusual, isn't it? Some lovely pink ones too.
I suppose I'd better have a think about colours.

Disease resistance, repeat flowering and not a leery orange. Scent would be nice but i think they'd probably be too far back for me to notice, so that's not essential.
To be honest, I'm not sure what I want . I'm not bothered about a theme but would like some idea what to look for in the GC. Most seem to have names geared at people buying gifts for special  occasions. So i was hoping to go with a list of recommendations and see if any were available.

@Busy-Lizzie .. thanks for the roses today, some of my favourites... I thought  you might be ahead of us in France...

@matt_fender   no problem about the wild rose, that's a beauty... would like to see your native hedge sometime.. post on here if you like..   my local wild roses don't seem to be out yet..

@Nollie   ..I've never tried to manipulate a flush like that..however the storm I had recently, blew off all the buds from a few roses, so I have lost the first flush on those.. they were decapitated... so now they're shooting out again to bloom later.. so you could probably do something similar..
.. I don't think you need worry because most of your roses I think are continuous bloom form, so they should always be producing for you.. those are the types I got for mostly …  gaps in flushes can be 2 weeks or 2 to 3 months.. just depends on the rose.. most modern types these days, including Austins are more or less continuous...
