    @Janie B  ..yes, that's what I do... I let roses grow and develop their character so I can get a handle on how they are before I start messing about too much with them... I often don't prune them at all for the first couple of years..
    ... but if you have them on column frames, you might consider just turning the canes diagonally a touch, rather than straight up... but deadheading only at this stage...

    Thanks @Marlorena, I think I will leave them to it, I suspect of I dis-budded them now they wouldn’t grow back in time! I since found an American website which said that professional exhibitors often do this to ensure the best performance on the day, but 6-8 weeks before... so it will be what it will be. The perennials are going great guns already so will hopefully compensate for any gaps. I do find even the Austins take a short break in between, maybe I will go down the tomato feed route to encourage them to keep going.

    Beautiful roses everyone, I like your Tess, @B3, looks kind of velvety.

    @Busy-Lizzie stunning roses!
    Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
  • Thank you @Marlorena for your advice on altering the training wires on my generous gardener I have now adjusted them!

    No flowers yet but lots more of the roses have buds now.

    Amber Queen - largest bud, closest to opening - 3 more not far off this and several more forming.

    Malvern Hills has a few like these

    First bud on Royal Jubilee

    Three groups of buds like this on Ghislaine De Feligonde (Aphids everywhere!)

    Rhapsody in Blue has 14 buds.

    First Kew Garden buds forming

    @Nollie i must get a new phone. It doesn't look quite like that! Mine looks just like @Busy-Lizzie 's .
    Anywayyyy, I'm off to an alphabetical garden centre tomorrow to get 3or4  roses.
    Much better than plants sorted by colour or whatever. You're more likely to find something unusual even when it's just a few leaves.

    In London. Keen but lazy.

    This sounds like a nice concept, a rose meadow -

    hope to check it out when I’m there next week :) and that no one minds me posting this here.
