I'm really pleased with the rose this year, I'm learning more about pruning and training now and I think it's starting to show. I adore your French garden, it must be nice having a new project in Norfolk too. I'll looking forward to seeing what you do with it. Have a lovely time in Bressingham too, I think we are planning Beth Chatto next month too.
  • @Busy-Lizzie definitely Rosa rugosa, don't have many deer around in our suburban estate but plenty of rabbits and moles.

It's just nice to see something a little different.

@Marlorena I got a bare root Dizzy Heights last winter. It is putting on decent growth, however it appears that what looks like will be a leading cane is growing towards the path, instead of towards the support.
What would you do in this case?

Would you leave it to its own devices for a while or am I better to try to coax it now to bend towards the support by tying it in with a bit of pressure as it's young?  Or would I attempt to do that later on this year?

I'm not sure what the best thing to do here is, so thanks for your assistance here.

@gutties … no, I would not leave that to its own devices... what I do here, and I've just done it with one of mine, is when that cane is about a foot long, and it's growing outwards towards me.. I very carefully, using green string, gently turn the cane upwards, in the direction I want it to go, but doing so gradually as it develops.. tying and training further as it grows...tying it back to another cane or support.. it's sod's law that on occasions a tender cane will snap off whilst doing this operation,... but it will soon grow another one..  but if you take care it's  not a problem...

Here are  a couple of photos of one I've just done..

..this green cane, the nearest one, was growing outwards horizontally towards me.. I've managed to turn it upwards and tie it in.. see next photo..

..love the Rugosa hedge... beautiful country picture of a rose hedge that..

@WonkyWomble … nice to see your pink rose again... did you want a reminder of the name? I missed your post last night...  'Souvenir de Mme. Leonie Viennot'...  sometimes we need to practice our French with some of these roses... I admit I do love the French names..

At last I have a rose in bloom to show. I think its Celebration,  I was looking for a bush, yellow and fragrant and saw so many and would you believe it's the only one that came without a name tag.🙄

Thank you Marlorena, yes it's taking a while for the name to spring to the top of my tongue but I'll get there 😀

Gorgeous bloom, @purplerallim, much more intense than the colour of my (Golden) Celebration.
