That's funny Marlorena, the other rose I bought from East Ruston was a Cecile Brunner! That one was the first bloom so a little bit worse for ware. It's got colder here so everything seems to have paused.
Yes, I'm by no means certain about it, but the Spray form of Cecile Brunner [known as Bloomfield Abundance] is a little different I think... but there should be 'sprays' of blooms, not single ones as edhelka has shown, so that's a bit off.. perhaps we'll know later when more flowers are out.. otherwise I'm stumped on that one at the moment...
The first buds were single but the future are more in sprays or groups of 4-5, like in this photo. It's really a mix and hard to say what is representative so early in the season. And I am probably choosing not ideal photos for ID.
Swings and roundabouts, @Daniel Rutherford, when yours are in all their summer glory, mine will be taking a break - many kind of go into hibernation in late July/August - and will be pretty defoliated by black spot! We get torrential rain showers then the fierce sun comes out again, which creates hot, humid conditions that roses don’t enjoy. They emerge again in September.
I do get the benefit of earlier than usual flowering perennials though. At the moment, lots of salvias, gaura, nepeta, verbena bonariensis in full bloom plus buds on the echinacea already. The perennials fill in the gaps of the roses ok tho. Heres a rose I missed earlier, Warm Welcome, plus a few salvias, greggii and caradonna respectively:
Sorry, I do seem to be hogging this thread, due to being a bit ahead, climate-wise. Not bloomed yet, but my new Wild Rover is covered in buds and I’m really looking forward to this one bursting forth. It seems very vigorous given it was a late bare root planting this year. As you can see, we had some rain then the sun came out:
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
